“What is a hero?” The definition of a hero according to Merriam Webster is, “a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability”. However, there are many people that will disagree with this definition. Heroes are everywhere in life. People may not see it, but in every single person there is a hero waiting to get out. It is a matter of whether the person decides in a moment of crisis to be a hero or to be a coward and run. There are many real life examples of people who chose to be a hero in a time of need as well as examples of people who are not considered heroes. Some examples of these heroes are Bill Gates and Barry Allen, who is also known as the Flash. Some reasons why people believe why Bill Gates is a hero are because he and his wife are philanthropists. Being a philanthropist means, “a person who seeks to promote the welfare of others, especially by the generous donation of money to good causes”. Bill Gates’s, “Gates Millennium Scholars Program” offers young scholars who do not have the money to afford college the chance to earn a scholarship in various subjects such as mathematics, computer science, science, public health, and education. In addition, since Bill Gates is one of the wealthiest people in the world, he can donate a lot more money than regular people can to charities. Reasons why Barry Allen, or the Flash, is a hero is he goes around saving people and bringing criminals to justice. When Barry Allen was a normal person living a normal life, he was a forensic scientist. He helps find murderers or criminals and brings them to justice. Then when he got his powers, he used them for the good of others and saved people’s lives. He also maintained his job as a forensic scientist, so he was a hero and a forensic scientist at the same
