Iranian Revolution is usually considered to be an attempt to resurrect a true Islamic government in the Middle East. Despite the revolution being considered an Islamic one, the groups involved were mostly non-Islamic and included communists, leftists, and so many other groups that had nothing to do with Islam. The truth is that most of them were not looking for an Islamic revolution whatsoever.

Once in power Islam was the last thing on Khomeini’s mind. I believe that he actually came to symbolize ‘change.’ What united the people of Iran around the revolution was that everyone wanted change because the Shah had failed to deliver on his promises, and any person could have become the leader, as long as they condemned the Shah. It is interesting to note that Iran has always presented the US as the devil and its leaders are seen constantly making aggressive statements against it, this in reality conceals the fact that on all key strategic issues Iran has consistently collaborated with the US. This is the secret love affair of US and Iran that only a few people pay attention to.
