Introduction The “Inside or Out” case takes place in Austin, Texas at the Pflugerville police station. This case involves Lauren Peters, a white female in her forties who is a rape victim of her ex-employee Cole. Rebecca Collins is the Senior Sexual Assault Counselor at the Stop Abuse For Everyone (SAFE) agency and is providing Lauren services. SAFE agency staff provides services aimed to help clients recover from child abuse, sexual assault, or domestic violence. Rebecca was hired for her position in 2014 and provides intake assessments and conducts counseling sessions several times per week for clients. Lauren was not pleased the responding officer saw it necessary to state she should not have been using marijuana. According to a study performed by Cohn, Zinzow, Resnick, and Kilpatrick (2013), concerns about the criminal justice system is a suggested reason why victims do not report a rape to police (p. 466). Police often make individuals feel uncomfortable when reporting. This presents the idea Lauren feels uncomfortable discussing her case with Detective Rogers because she is concerned she will be interrogated about her substance use. This would allow Rebecca to sit outside of the area and still have a physical vision of the discussion. Detective Rogers stated it could be interfering with the investigation if Rebecca sat in the room with Lauren while they discussed the case. The advantage of this scenario is if Rebecca can sit outside of an office with clear windows she would be able to have a vision of Rebecca and Detective Rogers to ensure Lauren felt safe and would allow her not to interfere with the investigation. This scenario ensures Rebecca feels safe, allows Rebecca to be present, and does not cause interference with the investigation. The disadvantage of this scenario is Rebecca would not be able to comfort Lauren if she becomes emotional or prevent Detective Rogers from asking her questions that might offend
