Introduction- “What do you do Dr. Pham?” I asked my doctor a few summers back. He told me that he makes sure that kids like me be in the healthiest shape that they can be. He helps diagnose illnesses early on, treats them, and prevents new illnesses from happening. Not only does he help children through physical pain, but he is also a friend when it comes to internal pain. He was obviously no Superman or Batman, but he was a hero nonetheless, and that is why I chose to research Pediatricians.

They combine combining physical exams with the information in patients’ medical histories to diagnose early illnesses and prevent them. They can recommend treatment programs such as medication or surgery, or simply providing advices about exercising and a healthy diet.
Many Pediatricians work in hospitals and in health clinics with other doctors, however many of the pediatricians become self employed and open their own private offices. Pediatricians can work anywhere from 9-12 hours a day, adding up to about 45-60 hours a week, although the work schedule can change to adjust to the patient’s needs.
Aspects that are appealing are that you are making a difference in someone’s life, helping them live a long and joyful life. Another pro would be the pay; a mere 120 thousand a year for pediatricians after they have completed residency. You have a high status in society, given the name of doctor. Aspects that are unappealing are that you have to work very long hours, making it difficult for a family life or a personal life.
