Have you ever wanted to be a doctor? Do you like kids? Well if you answered yes to these questions a pediatrician would be a great career choice for you. THe work that is performed is a variety of different things. From minor injuries to major health problems. The job would also involve emotional support for families and patients. You would have to be able to work with all different types of people from babies to parents. A pediatrician would diagnose and treat problems with infants, children, and teenagers. They would work with their patients diet, hygiene and disease prevention. A lot of collaboration is needed with other medical professionals because it is such a large field. To become a pediatrician you need a medical degree which takes 4 years bachelors degree. Medical schools require you to take the MCATS which is the Medical College Admissions Test. Getting accepted is based upon your undergrad grades, letters of reference and leadership skills and extracurricular activities. You might want to look into your top schools admissions policies. After you get your MD you need on the job training at a hospital or another medical facility. That usually takes 3 years. Then you need certification through the Board of pediatrics. All in all it will take about 12 years to become a pediatrician. THe best school in the nation for medical degrees is harvard medical school. The tuition costs about 53,581 dollars per year. Harvard requires a median MCAT score of 37 out of 45 and you need a average GPA of 3.93. Harvard only accepts about 167 students for first years. Harvard mostly accepts minorities and out of state people. Only 8% of all the people applying for medical schools ate pediatricians. Only about 54% receive scholarships.
