This common beverage is a dangerous substance that many Americans enjoy drinking, but most do not realize the effects alcohol can have on a person and what it can do to their health. “In some cases, heavy and/or chronic drinking directly leads to brain damage. Alcohol and drugs can affect the person’s ability to drive involving reaction time, visibility, and the ability to think rationally. Drinking without the effects of alcohol is already dangerous, but once someone thinks that it is acceptable to drive with alcohol in their system, they make it more dangerous. “In fact, people who have been drinking can respond between 15 percent and 25 percent slower than when they have not been drinking,” and “visual acuity is reduced by 32 percent when you are drunk, and peripheral vision is affected as well,” (Aronson).
