In elementary children have learned that Columbus is a good person and that he discovered America. Then when I got to high school, I learned new information on Columbus. Columbus also has a holiday and, after I found out certain things about Christopher Columbus I didn't think he deserved to have a holiday anymore. In the end, whether you like Columbus all comes down to what information you have and, your beliefs. In elementary school children have learned that Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1942 and, that he is the best thing to happen to America. They also don't tell correct information for children to try and, make Columbus look like a better person than he is. I also believed when I was younger that Columbus was the best man they wrote him out to be. We read books that make us believe that Columbus day is to make sure to remember who discovered where we live. …show more content…

Then I read an article and that was the day that I came to know about the real Columbus. Then I read the article Columbus not a man worth honoring and, the article came to state the same thing. The part of the article that upsets me the most is the way he treats Native Americans and if they didn't work he would hang the Native Americans. I believe now after having read these things that Columbus is not a good person who should have the honor of day for himself. I have always thought that Columbus day was a great honor the memory of Columbus and all the sacrifices he had to get through to get to America. Then I got to high school and learned that Columbus was not as good of a person as he I had learned that he was. After I learned about Columbus and all he done, I thought we shouldn't have Columbus day anymore. Columbus had tortured the native people to get what he wants, but, he still has a holiday because people do not know the facts or don't want
