In 1776, when the United States was born, a set of rules, or guidelines were published to make the United States a fair country. When I think of the word “America,” I think of an independent country that stands alone, under the rule of no other country, or tyrant. A country fair and where EVERYONE is created equal. Our Founding Fathers formed this nation, with liberty and rights. The Founding Fathers gave us a gift, in which they expect us to carry until we die. That one gift is the fact we can stand together in peace and harmony with men, women, and children to fight for our lives and our freedoms. America is a unique country in many ways, we can stand together, no man (or woman) is treated less that the other, we are all treated equal. Other
What makes America great? To many it is the idea that everyone has an equal shot. Everyone is allowed the same chance at glory. But recently our way of life has come under fire by our own elected leader, Donald Trump. Our president has written in an executive order banning the immigrations of all citizen from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Somalia. This goes against everything we have fought for, and our morals as americans. And when our morals are in check, we have to make our voices heard. We must show the world what we believe in, revolt and not let go until our country is better than it was before. It is this never ending fight that defines the greatest countries, and we are not going to let ourselves slip. Donald Trump’s travel ban wrong, not only morally but it is also illegal, unconstitutional, and most importantly against our beliefs as americans.
Equality in American Democracy American democracy changed drastically after the Civil War. One of the major changes in American democracy was equality. Today, American citizens are more equal than the Americans before the Civil War. Major movements, events, and government decisions changed the way people view equality today. Some of these changes improved the equality between American citizens, but others only increased the inequality.
When it comes to the visions of America we tend to think of two sides. Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin. They each have their own unique way of saying what Americas Vision is.Thomas Jefferson 's vision of America is what we would call idealistic. Meaning it is ideal to be lived for and for which must always strive. He states in the Declaration of Independence that "All are created equal." Defining equality can be difficult because the meaning is always changing. It does not mean we are the same, but it does mean we all are granted the same rights and freedom. I believe that America is always struggling to live up to "all are created equal" but have yet to succeed at it. I think that America has not lived up to Jefferson ideal. If we look back it in time and compare to the present we are still dealing with some of the same situations. Race, Religions, etc. A quote from the Declaration of Independence states, "That they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness." Stating that every human deserves to have their own life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness if they do to wish so.
Practice what you preach! The Unites States preaches democracy, freedom, liberty and justice by all. Our ancestors fled England to gain these basic rights and establish a land of liberty and justice for all. As I study history, I have come to question whether we, as a country, really live by these principles. By the late 1800s the United States had become a world power with the ability to influence other countries and expand to new lands by using it military and economic powers; America was divided on how to use this power and influence.
Today America is country where everything and everyone are unique and united and unique nation make a union. Thomas Paine, an intellectual from the 18th century, wrote a famous piece called the Rights of Man where he listed points in which hold partially true and untrue today. In a passage Paine specifically wrote that are held untrue today is that the poor and the rich are treated fairly and equally, that there are no riots nor tumults, and that taxes are low for everybody. The only two statements that Paine describes the United States correctly is that the government is just and different people make it hard to form a union. Paine is trying to interpret that the country is united and just in his time and that it will continue to be like that; if Paine somehow traveled into the future and saw what America is today he might would 've not have written that passage since today there a things in America that are extremely different compared to the late 18th century.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” (“Declaration of Independence: A Transcription”). This statement from the Declaration of Independence, is very significant to many Americans. But how many Americans really believe that everyone is truly equal or if every American is actually considered equal? Jonathan Kozol’s article, “Still Separate, Still Unequal,” is an effective argument because of his brilliant use of pathos, successful usage of logos, and his notable use of his underscoring sympathetic tone.
The core standards of America are founded, in principle, on the basis of its diversity and equality among citizens. Begin- ning with its Declaration of Independence, the United States distinguished itself from other modern nation-states by establishing a country of men who were different but equal. Yet, despite the unifying images America projects within and beyond its borders, the idea behind E Pluribus Unum does not resound as one might assume it would.
Throughout history, the United States has fallen flat in showing equality. In 1861 was the start of the Civil War. The country was “split in half” about equal rights and liberty. The South was set on having slaves and thought nothing was wrong with it. To them slaves were not people, but instead they were property. The North,

Being an American is more than just living in America, or being born in this country. Many people talk about being American’s and they aren't even in this country. Being an American is a way of life that people adapt into by seeing how we act. People all over the world eat the same things that we eat, so that can't really be a way of being an American. To me, being an American is embracing our ways of life, not fighting for the other guys, and loving our anthem and the flag.
America has many problems that can be fixed. The problem that stuck out to me the most was our poverty levels. I believe that if we fix this issue then we can start focusing on other issues that need resolved. We are in the 21st century, we shouldn’t have people who are starving, don’t have access to proper education, and are living on the streets. Those are thing I would expect to find in a third world country not in America.
America is defined as one country, culturally that statement is false, but geologically it is true. Some situations can involve us all, yet there is a mass amount of days where it is individual. But the structure is still there. All laws should pertain to each citizen. The article, The Bill of Rights, can prove these statements with ease. On the other hand, though, America is also fluctuating. Views never really stay the same, and the articles, Andrew Jackson’s Speech to Congress on “Indian Removal” and “Cultural Common Ground Gets Harder To Come By” can prove this. These articles both show a contrast between the views of American citizens. Finally, the whole daily life of an American can be vastly different depending on whose shoes you step into. Is Inequality in America really as bad as we perceive it? In America, we have many people discussing back and forth on the issue of inequality. Some people claim that inequality is a rapidly growing phenomenon, separating the rich from the poor. Though, other Americans claim that we’re progressing and departing away from inequality. However, the way in which we choose to perceive inequality is our choice, but we cannot ignore the fact that it exist. Inequality is an issue that has been constantly debated in the past, and will continue to be debated, so long as we do not put an end to it. Inequality is changing our country. American political culture emphasizes the values of liberty, equality, and democracy. Most of America’s debating is not over whether these issues are important, but how to best go about achieving these ideas. American’s define liberty as freedom, but America believes that liberty should be contained on some levels so they can create a stable society. The definition of freedom is that we can do whatever we want, as long as we do not affect another person’s freedom. American’s want to be able to do what they want, while not affecting someone else. So some rules are set to protect people and create a stable society.
