Today's Impact

In the first couple of movies, Indiana is portrayed as a rather charismatic character, although his motives develop. Indiana is always a, treasure-hunting, idealistic, thrill-seeking, impulsive, highly adaptive, adventurous man. What Indiana Jones And the Last Crusade brings to the table, is a powerful understanding of how and why Indiana Jones is the way he is and the reason for his usually versatile motivations. A treasure hunter is a person who, as either a vocation or avocation, searches for sunken, buried, lost, or hidden treasure and other artifacts. This became a trend across the world. In recent years, we have seen treasure hunting glorified in National Geographic, Animal Planet on NBC, CBS, and ABC television as well as on public television. There is no denying the fact that the search for sunken treasure has long been glamorized in the United States. Widely circulated stories of easy riches have met with receptive audiences, yet no major media vehicle has presented the story of the vast irreversible destruction of these indispensable artifacts of the past. Because of these Films such as Indiana Jones make people around the world think its okay to go and just take whatever they want not knowing they are destroying history. For instance museums have historical artifacts that don't belong to them from countries such as Egypt, Iraq and countries in South America. Which means “over time, there was less more to be had”(83) since everything that was rumored to be lost had been found and put on display for the entire world to see.
