Cultivating Healthful Environments Incivility is a known issue that continues to plague the workplace environment. There is no exception for the healthcare community and its surroundings. Daily healthcare workers are subject to incivility in the workplace. Incivility in nursing has the potential to cause a decrease in the quality of care, cause increased amounts of physical and emotional stress, and place patients in harmful situations (Armstrong, 2017). This paper will present the issues that incivility is placing on healthcare and how important it these issues are to nursing. Not only does there need to be communication among peers but there also needs to be communication between all hierarchical lines of the organization. Everyone’s opinions need to be valued no matter their position on the hierarchy of the organization. Incivility has been shown to have an increase in facilities where poor communication is among staff members (Abdollahzadeh, Asghari, Ebrahimi, Rahmani, & Vahidi, 2017). Building team and team spirit is a great way for staff members to work as a team and rely on one another for support. Having teams and raising employees spirts makes them feel valued within the organization. When working as a team staff feel as if they are part of a group working at reaching a common goal as their peers. Instead of individuals trying to compete against each other to finish the goal first. Both the organization and nurses must work together to help promote the healthful environment in which they all work. Abdollahzadeh, Asghari, Ebrahimi, Rahmani, & Vahidi (2017) found that to prevent incivilty in the work environment that a comprehensive and systemic attempt was needed. FNP use communication daily to speak with patients, family members, and other members of the organization they work for. To help promote and create a healthful work environment communication is a necessity in striving for this. FNP can create or help promote commincation within their organization through a staff development committee (SDC). SDC is a committee where employees come together to work on components of a healthful work environment and strive to make their organization a better place to work (Eads, 2017). A comprehensive approach can also be useful in helping an FNP to promote a healthful work environment. With FNP being in more of the middle of the hierarchy of and organization, often they can have more impact on an organization. FNP need to work together with all aspects of employees to help promote the well-being of everyone. Coming together as team and presenting their findings and ideas to the organization on how to make the health and well-being of the staff better. This is where the organization then must come in a listen and support its employees to the best of its ability. Both sides must work together to overcome the incivilty that can negatively affect an organization. Organizations and its employees play a major role in preventing workplace incivilty and FNP can help achieve this
