Romeo and Juliet were victims of young love. This caused them to make impulsive decisions without thinking of the consequences. Being victims of young love is what also caused them to be victims of their own actions, not victims of fate. Throughout the play, Romeo and Juliet made numerous decisions quickly without thoroughly thinking of the possible consequences they may have. In the short time period that they knew each other, they made decisions such as crashing the Capulet’s ball, marrying within 24 hours of knowing each other, and committing suicide after learning the other had done the same. Each one from an opposing family. This does not stop them from getting married though. They meet each other on a Sunday, and are married by Monday. They’re impulsiveness causes them to want to be married so quickly. Romeo hurries to Friar Lawrence to convince him to marry them. Friar Lawrence reminds Romeo that he was just in love with Rosaline the morning before by saying, “Holy Saint Francis! What a change is here!/ Is Rosaline, that thou didst love so dear,/ So soon forsaken? Young men’s love then lies/ Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes./ Jesu Maria! What a deal of brine/ Hath washed thy sallow cheeks for Rosaline ” (2.3.65-70). The Friar does marry them, but at the end of the night, Romeo sneaks off to sleep with Juliet. They kept this a secret to everyone but Friar Lawrence and the Nurse. This causes trouble because the Capulet family was in the process of trying to marry Juliet off to one of the Prince’s relatives, Paris. It was a huge risk for Romeo to sneak into Juliet’s room for the night, but he did it anyways. He did it because of his immediate love for her. They were both victims of their own actions. They chose what to do throughout the whole play, and all of those choices led to them being dead. They made numerous choices including crashing the Capulet’s ball, marrying within 24 hours of knowing each other, and committing suicide after learning the other had done the same. All of these reasons made me know that they are victims of their own actions, not victims of fate. They found love at first sight, and their impulsiveness caused them to make risky choices throughout the whole play.
