In the best –selling novel the Maze Runner, James Dashner has developed many meaningful and complex themes. From all these various themes, I believe the main motive and message of the story is how friendship can help us pass the hurdles and obstacles in life and help us achieve success. The novel, the Maze Runner displays tremendous amounts of friendship and strong bonds between characters in the society. The novel written by James Dashner demonstrates the importance of friendship in life. In the Maze Runner strong bonds and exceptional friendship were created in many events, but the relation between Chuck and Thomas, the bond between Teresa and Thomas and the relations amongst all the Gladers working together showed a really deep meaning of companionship. These relationships are what allowed them to collectively pass the hard obstacles in their way and obtain their ambition.
Chuck and Thomas had a really strong connection with each other throughout the entire story. From the first day that Thomas entered the Glade, he created a strong bond and friendship with Chuck, which carried out throughout the entire story. Thomas was able to make many friends throughout the story, but his true and real friend was Chuck. Chuck helped Thomas through all the pressures and hard times he had to face while living in the Glade. Many Gladers suspected Thomas as a person who was a traitor and someone damaging for the society, but Chuck always supported and believed in him. Although Chuck was annoying at times, Thomas always protected him and treated him as his own younger brother. I felt that this novel has a significant and vital impact to adults and children alike. In this book, teamwork was the key aspect here in order for Sam and Jolly to succeed against the nefarious Fen and Professor Mandrake. Teamwork and co-operation is necessary to go through all points of life. This shows the readers that event though a situation may seem intricate at first, two can surmount it. In this book, Jolly is known for his phrases. One of his phrase is ‘A trouble shared is a trouble halved”.
The type of narration, the plot’s rising action, and the overall imprint that is left on the reader, pushes this book above and beyond. Whaley creates a picture for the reader by using third- person omniscient point of view. This method helps the reader better understand the main characters. The rising action development was extremely easy to follow. The descriptions of the characters and the background information helps explained how the story was laid out. Also, the author seemed like he wanted the reader to realize the purpose of the three-way friendship. The theme of this book is that the human capacity to adapt to and find happiness in the most difficult circumstances. Each character in the novel shows this in their way. For instance, their family is randomly taken from their home and forced to work but they still remain a close nit family. In addition, they even manage to stick together after being separated for one of their own. These show how even in the darkest time they still manage to find a glimmer of hope and they pursued on.
Throughout this powerful novel, we observe the injustice in societal rejection and the pain caused by this. However, another extremely dominating theme involving the need for friendship surfaces again and again in all of the prominent characters. The Creature's isolation reveals the effects that loneliness can have when it is the strongest feeling in one's life. Taken as a whole, while the ability to care for oneself is important, people will always need someone to be there when the road gets rough.

The novel The Maze Runner by James Dashner begins with a teenage boy waking up in an elevator who has no memory of the past, only that his name is Thomas. When the doors of the elevator open up he is pulled into a humongous square surrounding, called the Glade, by a group of teenage boys. The boys in the Glade refer to themselves as the ‘Gladers’. Thomas learns that the Gladers have lived in there for two years and that the Glade is located in the center of a maze which contains a labyrinth of high walls that move during the night and deadly creatures called grievers. The Glade is led by two boys, Alby and Newt; they both maintain order in the Glade by enforcing strict rules and jobs that keep the Gladers busy. A day after Thomas’ arrival an unknown girl arrives in the Glade. This shocks everyone because the Gladers only receive a new person every month, never within the same week. This also shocks everyone because she was the only girl in a maze full of boys. The girl also gives a message that everything is going to change and that she is the last one ever. Right after her message she immediately falls into a coma. The arrival of the girl causes many things to go chaotic including the sun seizing to rise, the Gladers stop receiving supplies from the creators of the maze, and the doors of the Glade that protect the Gladers from the grievers at night stop closing. When the girl, Teresa wakes up she informs Thomas that they both knew each other in the past and that the maze was a code. Thomas and the people who run around the maze to map out the labyrinth, the runners, look through the archives of the maps and find out the code. Friends can tell harsh truths when they must be told. There are four different types of friends: True friends, Convenient friends, Special interest friends, and historical friends. To have friendship is to have comfort. In times of crisis and depression, a friend is there to calm us and to help lift up our spirits.
