Voting is a very important right. America have been fighting for independence since, 1775. Along with all the privileges of this country, voting is one of the most important. Voting is a thing that not all countries do. Voting is of sign independence and freedom. To show our own opinion in government affairs. Some people don’t vote. Some even go to the length of saying their vote doesn’t matter. This is very untrue, every vote matters. What if one day we couldn’t vote? Wouldn’t you feel bad for not voting. Us Americans really have a privilege that other countries aren’t offered. Voting is important, not just to pick a president, but to also show our freedom. We worked so long and hard so all adult citizens can vote. Why not take advantage of
In America, voting for the President is a privilege and a lie. Many Americans think when they go to the polls in November, they are voting for the President of the United States; but really, they are voting for a group of electors who have pledged to support a nominee for the President. The Founding Fathers were concerned that presidents would always come from a populous state and wondered whether the public would have the knowledge of various candidates necessary to make a wise selection. They did not have access to technology like the internet or smart phones as we do. In most states, as the result of the election, the state awards all its electors to the winning candidate (Belenky 1308). A Presidential a candidate must win 270 Electoral
First, one reason why Americans should be required to vote is that it will educate the citizens. Evidence supporting this reason is in “Unequal Participation: Democracy’s Unresolved Dilemma, American Political Science Review” Aaron Lijphart stated that “By compelling people to vote, we are likely to arouse in them an intelligent interest and to give them a political knowledge that do not at present possess.” This evidence helps explain why Americans should be required to vote because when citizens are required to vote it gives them a political understanding that they didn't have before voting. Most citizens will research
Some Americans might believe that being able to vote and participate in presidential elections is one of the truest forms of democracy, but this is not the case. Not only are elections non-democratic, but also America itself is not a democracy. The truth is, some Americans dislike the way our political system functions
Voting is an opportunity given to Americans. As Americans we live in a democracy. Americans live in a democracy that is subjected to vote; a democracy where people have fought for the right to vote on many situations and for the rights of Americans to not be infringed. However, sometimes people just do not vote. Perhaps, reason being is some Americans are not familiar with the background of America and where voting all started. Maybe, some Americans think it all boils down to the electoral votes and their vote simply is not significant. Maybe, it could be that they possibly do not care for politics and do not intend on involving themselves around something they do not understand. There are many reasons why Americans choose to vote and many reasons why Americans choose not to vote.
American citizens over the age of 18 have had the opportunity to vote since 1790, but not everyone has gone and voted for a new leader to be. Right after WWII the percentage of voters decreased. So the people of America should have compulsory voting, because of proper punishment, voter turnout, and it is the citizens civic duty.
Using the advantage to civically participate benefits America’s future as well as your own and the people around you. Taking the chance to vote is something that many people in the world can’t do. Neglecting your privileges to do so is deemed irresponsible, and rightfully so. By voting with an educated choice, you show responsibility as a citizen as you are taking care of a civic
The structure and the foundation of the Electoral College originates from the Constitution. Due to a fear of mob rule, the founders of the United States aspired to acquire a system of political representation. In order to insure checks within the system, elections were derived from representative blocks of votes. In addition, The Framers realized that vast numbers of regional candidates could allure the interests of diverse exclusive factions, allowing for the opportunity for the people to become divided, which could lead to interference in the succession of power. With that in mind The Framers concluded that Congress should be given the power to remedy matters that are not determined in a popular election, which in turn inspired them to fashion
Today in America, less than half of young voters between the ages of 18 and 24 vote (TheBestColleges.org). What most of these new adults fail to realize, is that their government depends on them to vote and elect new leaders to represent their country. Many of them make excuses to avoid voting, when really, they benefit most from voting.
The most widely known reason or excuse for not voting is because voting is held on a Tuesday. Many Americans work and get caught up in the daily routine of work, school, family life, or simply forget at the end of the day. A lot of Americans argue that if voting was on the weekend they would vote. Personally, I feel this is a weak excuse and they could make time to vote. You cannot be penalized by an employer for taking time off to go vote. On the weekends, they could make excuses that they had family events, travel, chores, etc., and those reasons would keep them for going out to vote too. Another reason U.S. citizens are thought to not vote is because it is a two-step process to vote. You must register first and then vote later. In other countries you can register the day of and cast your vote immediately following. Another contributor to low voter turnout is because it is not a law to vote in the U.S. In Australia and Belgium, it is the law to vote and you can be fined for not voting. By implementing such a law in the U.S. would take away from what many people feel like is a vote; “not voting is a vote” and this would take away from their
American should be required to vote because 40 out of 160 have these voting systems where you are required to vote. If not there would be consequences such as a fine or maybe even jail. People would also go and vote if there wasn´t a charge involved. This would make americans go and vote today.
The first reason is that the Electoral College contributes to the cohesiveness of the country be requiring a distribution of popular support to be elected president. Without the Electoral College the president would be selected either through the domination of a heavily populated region over the others or through the domination of large urban areas over the rural ones. It is primarily because of the Electoral College that presidential nominees are more likely to select a vice president from a region other than their own. For as things stand now, no one region contains the absolute majority (270) of electoral votes required to elect a president. Because of this, presidential candidates are motivated to pull together coalitions of States and regions thus avoiding aggravating regional differences.
You right to vote is a privilege. Since the time voting began it has been a historic civil right to any American person whom is willing to exercise that right. As an American you have civic duties and it is your responsibility and obligation to help shape our societies future and current community policies. Voting is that primary basis of exercising those duties and obligations. When you do not exercise those rights you are giving up a valuable privilege that is not just the right to voice your opinion but the right for issues to be heard and resolved.
1.The first time these women voted because “learn to vote” was written on the table. The time of this photo was taken was shortly after the woman was allowed to vote. This also shows that at the time, there were not many women participating in the voting in the United States. If they have participated in the vote before, they will not learn to vote here.
Have you ever been persuaded into voting? Well, you should have your own say on where your opinion goes. Voting is a right that every citizen in America over the age of 18 can do. Many people have become aware of the fact that the number of voters had reached its all time low. But as the newest voting season comes closer, we should still have a voice and the freedom to decide what we do. Which is, take a step against making America a compulsory voting country, because it proves unnecessary and there are other alternatives than mandatory voting.
The action of voting is such important role in how our country is going to be developed, especially effects on the economy, foreign relationships, society, etc. People are becoming much involved in politics, which is extraordinary because it means that the people are understanding how important their vote is and how it brings change to the issues that truly bother them. Many citizens don’t vote because they are either lazy or too busy, they either have jobs, classes, families, or other responsibilities take care of, but voting is a responsibility that should be attended. Voting could be the thing to prevent awful political leader’s to be put in office who are not focusing on what’s truly important, which is the people, which means that
