While it is consider to be an effective in eliciting information about a person, Should Thematic Apperceptions test be given? It has helped in research of human personality, and I think it is important to administrate the test because it gives effective information about a person views of his or her own attitude's towards themselves and others. The Thematic Apperception Test also known as TAT was First developed in 1939 by Henry Murray, Christiana Morgan and their other colleagues in Harvard Psychological Clinic. The purpose of the test was explore the underlying dynamic's of an individual conflicts and evaluate their personality through there dominate drives and interest and motives. It has also been use to determine they way people think that have committed crimes such as murder to have a better understanding to why they committed such crimes and what went wrong. However a TAT test can not be used to diagnosis mental disorder, although it can be used to determine psychotherapy which could then be used to properly help with personalities. The test is usually given to a person in a room that is quiet without any distractions. the person is sitting with the examiner and the examiner will show the person a set of story cards taken from a full set of about 31 TAT cards. The amount of cards that are taken are between 10 and 14, it is given in two one hour test that are done at different sessions. Yes Despite all the criticisms given concerning the TAT it has been widely adopted and used in research studies in area's of phycology that include dreams, fantasies, and the motives that people choose for their careers. Sometimes it is used in a psychiatric or psychological context to assess personalities disorders, thought disorders, and in forensics examination's to evaluate crime suspects, or to screen candidates for high stress occupations.
