A humidifier is a device for regulating the amount of vapor in the air of a room or building by generating a water mist or steam and releasing it into the air.
Parts of a humidifier and their functions
A humidifier is basically made up of three parts as listed below:
1. Reservoir–Holds water that is absorbed by the wick.
2. Fan-Is placed close to the wick so that when the humidifier is on, the wind from the fan blows on the wet wick so as to ensure easy evaporation of water.
3. Wick-its main work is to absorb and filter water from the reservoir chamber
The above three parts are common to all types of humidifiers. Different types of humidifiers have come up in the market with added benefits and features.

The importance of a humidifier
1. It helps to ease congestion-This is because dry air makes the mucus to become dry and thick hence not flow correctly. This results to the sinuses not draining effectively making the nasal passages to become clogged.
2. Faster recovery-This is for people who suffer from asthma, cold or allergies. Properly humidified air in your room helps to keep the nasal passages well-lubricated.
3. Prevent dry skin-Dry skin is common in wintertime. This is especially true of the exposed skin of your face, lips and hands. Dry skin wrinkles and cracks more easily, and living in an arid house can cause and exacerbate a number of skin maladies. Having a good humidifier in place can literally help you feel more comfortable in your skin. It will also improve the appearance of your skin and help counteract signs of aging.
4. Protect your hair and scalp-Our hair is made up of collagen, which is dependent upon moisture to remain flexible. Dry air results in dry, brittle, dull hair. Tedious maintenance-Humidifiers need to be maintained regularly. They must be refilled from time to time. They should be clean and in impeccable working condition all the time. The maintenance can be very demanding for those who don’t have much time or the inclination to put in the effort.
2. The condensation problem-A humidifier can lead to condensation if it is not in impeccable working order or if the settings chosen are wrong. Such a humidifier will facilitate growth of bacteria, mold and dust mites. The microorganisms will not only be a threat to your hygiene but also make symptoms of asthma much worse. 3. Health concerns-A humidifier is always at the risk of facilitating growth of fungi and bacteria. The water tank and the humidifier as a whole have moist surfaces and if these areas are infested by microorganisms then they can easily multiply. Given the fact that these microorganisms will then be airborne and spread easily within the room, infect people quickly since the place is confined
