Oral Contraceptive Versus Implant Contraceptive to Prevent Unplanned Pregnancy Having a baby at a young age can be very difficult, but having an unplanned baby can stressful, challenging and can change a couple’s life dramatically . Having a baby is like a job with many responsibilities and duties, except there is a life of a human being involved that must be taken care of. There are ways to be sexually active and still prevent pregnancy for females. There are many methods out there, but the most common methods are known as oral contraceptives and implant contraceptives. With these side effects women become more difficult to handle. Females gain three to five pounds because of the fluid retention (Beers 1421). Mood disorders can vary in seconds from a happy mood to a depressed mood and the moods Diarrhea, headaches and fatal blood clots can also be side effects from the pill (Kruvand 36). The blood clots can later on lead to strokes, heart attacks or serious medical problems (Rosenblum). Blood clots, strokes, and heart attacks is not a good thing so maybe a female needs to think twice before taking the pill. “ Using the pill for more than five years may increase the risk of developing cervical cancer” (Beers 1421). Its recommended for the female to only use the pill for a short amount of time, maybe a couple of months. Antibiotics such as rifampicin or rifabutin reduce the effectiveness of the pill ( Beers 1421). This means that a female can not take these antibiotics if she wants the pill to function properly. “ The implants offer effective and long term contraceptives” (“Contraceptive Implant“). The implant is effective for a maximum of 3 years, then the implant must be removed (Beers 1422). Some women prefer the implant because its a long term solution but there is still women who believe that the effect of the implant a is not long enough. The implant can be removed at any time by a doctor (“Contraceptive Implant”). “ As soon as the implants are removed, the ovaries return to their normal functioning and the woman becomes fertile again” (Beers 1422). The Implant provides relief from menstrual pain (“Contraceptive Implant”). The implant eliminates the worry about remembering to take the pill everyday at a certain time.
