Igor Stravinsky was born on June 5th (June 17th, New Style), 1882 in Oranienbaum near St. Petersburg, Russia. His father was a leading Operatic Bass, and his mother a talented pianist. Igor was given lessons in piano and music theory as a child, as well as surrounded by theatrical and musical influence within his family. He studied philosophy and law at St. Petersburg University, and graduated in 1905. In the year of 1906, Igor Stravinsky was wed to Catherine Nossenko.
