This essay was about the iGens in the technological world today. The author spoke about how smartphones can affect adolescents lives in today's world. Some of the points that were stated are that smartphones can lead to depression, lack of socialization, and also suicide. The author also included some of the positive factors included in the iGen generation such as, teen birth rates decreased and children are safer physically. In the essay the author is prominent in portraying different outstanding aspects of the issue at hand. In my personal opinion I believe that the iGens cons outweigh the pros in this case. This is an important part to growing into a young adult. This is a vital tool because children must be able to speak face to face to others and use body language in future conversations. But, behind the face of a phone screen most children can say more and this does not prepare them for real life situations. Consequently, dating is one of statistics that has decreased in size. The iGen generation has changed from “dating” which is face to face physical action to “talking” which is messaging one another through smartphones and etc. Considering one of the positive aspects that adolescents are dating less frequently they are also having less pregnancies. The pregnancy rate has dropped due to the lack of socialization and dating. This is a fantastic facet to the positive side of the argument. Although, the birth rate has went down and allows children to grow up without the struggle of parenting they still will not be able to use the socializing skills that they never learned behind the screen of a phone. Also, when these young adults would like to be in a relationship they may not know what to say or the body language to use because they lacked these skills at such a young age.
