Good morning/ afternoon Mr. Hall and class today I will be giving you information on Ian Thorpe’s career. Ian Janes Thorpe the son of ken and Margret Thorpe was born on October 13, 1982 in Milperra, a suburb south west of Sydney in Australian. Ian Thorpe was the youngest in the family of 2 children and attended East hills boy’s technology high school, his parents encouraged him and his sister follow the interest in swimming. Although Ian was allergic to chlorine he still succeeded in swimming career by learning to swim with his head out of the water. On the first night of the Olympics in Sydney Ian won the 400m freestyle. The Australian team combined Ian, Michael klim, Chris Fydler and Ashley callus to gain victory over United states which was the first ever defeat ever in the 4 x 100m freestyle relay. Ian broke the world record in the 200-meter freestyle in the heats but placed 2nd in the final to the Dutch man swimmer van den Hoogenband. After the 2000 Sydney Olympics Ian Thorpe was the most successful with 3 gold medals and 2 silver medals.The Pan Pacific in 2001 and 2002 were majorly dominated by Ian as he won all the events he participated during the upcoming 2004 Olympic games. The 200m freestyle was classified as one of the big events ever in the 2004 Olympic games which featured Ian Thorpe, Hackett, Van den Hoogenband and Michael Phelps, Thorpe won the event by passing Van in the last 50m and winning by half of his body length and setting the new world record. In all events Thorpe achieved two gold medals, 1 silver and a Bronze medal.Ian Thorpe has contributed to television through is sponsors which are Optus, Adidas, the star and vortex spars, he has also had participated in various commentary contributions with network 7, SBS, the BBC and Huffington
