My experiences as the Executive Director of the Association of Teacher Educators-Indiana Unit have compelled me to pursue a specialization in higher education administration. I have grown to appreciate the demanding challenges of such a position and the successes that result from a well-organized team. The leadership perspective that I have developed has resulted in my wanting to move into a position with greater responsibilities so that I can make a larger impact on a higher education campus. The Indiana State University Higher Education Leadership program will help me achieve my goal of becoming an effective leader within a higher education organization by providing me the foundation upon which to expand my leadership qualities.

A reflective leader is able to use her experiences and the experiences of the team members as a starting point for making positive changes within the organization. The ISU Higher Education Leadership program will provide me with the tools and resources to better utilize the lessons learned from those experiences and information in order to think critically and logically on the issues that the world of education faces today. It is critical that I be able to communicate in a concise and professional manner. While my current position requires that my communication skills are fine-tuned, there is always room for improvement. By working in a close-knit cohort and participating in internships across my campus, ISU’s program will help me improve my interpersonal skills, which are essential to solving problems and creating an action plan for the organization.
