This video was about the five different types of equipment that are designed for patient safety, patient comfort, and early detection of problems to apply immediate interventions. In other words, the video was presented to show some of the highlights of the intensive care unit (ICU) room focusing on healing environment, patient safety, and high tech healthcare informatics platform that is designed to provide excellent patient care. First of all, this video talks about one of the most critical elements of taking care of an ICU patient, which is a proper environment that starts with the privacy of the patient. The video mentions that among the several ways that can be applied to provide privacy to the patient, the eGlass is the most important …show more content…

Since the nurses can turn off and turn on the eGlass by the touchable button, they do not have to go back to the patient’s room to pull the curtains down or slam the door in order to provide privacy to the patient. Likewise, the patient can use a remote to turn on and turn off the door. Since the nurse inside the patient room can control the eGlass, it is a very effective way to provide more privacy for the patient. Moreover, the eGlass eliminates the environment for germs to accumulate by replacing the traditional fabric curtains with an advanced, maintenance-free solution. According to Martinez, Sommerkamp, & Euerle (2015), “the use of ultrasound is expanding quickly in medicine today for a multitude of reasons: it lacks potentially harmful ionizing radiation, it is inexpensive, it is portable, its examinations can be repeated easily, and it gives immediate answers to clinically important problems” (p. 1063). Martinez et al. (2015) state that in order to determine cardiac function, intravascular volume status, and the morphology of the main blood vessels, a bedside ultrasound is essential. I think when the patient is really sick; time is the most valuable thing that healthcare professionals should be aware of. Therefore, using a bedside ultrasound, providers can quickly determine the problems and provide the appropriate and ultimate care to the patients. However, technical errors are always the concerns with electronic devices. I do not think there are any other risks associated with a bedside sonogram device, either for the patients or for the nurses. I
