To the Groom, Dear Mr. Gunter, Congratulations. You have become the luckiest man in the world today. I have watched countless men try to win the heart of your bride and fail. You have been given the honor of being the husband to my dear friend Elaina. Cherish every moment with her; she is irreplaceable. Her story is already one of great trial and tribulations and she has been a rock to so many people. I am glad she has finally found you. If you don’t mind I would like to tell you a story… the story of how special your wife truly is. I met Elaina in what I consider to be the worst part of my life, to date. I was not doing well in classes, my parents were going through a nasty divorce, everyone I thought I was friends with left, and I was alone. That is when your beautiful bride stepped up to the plate. I don’t know what she saw in me but she took me in. She befriended me at my lowest. She picked me back up on my feet every time I had a meltdown. Spending time with her became what made my day worth waking up for and that is when it happened. I had a terrible breakdown and I was hopelessly depressed. The only conceivable way for me to escape my pain was to take my life. It was decided, I was done and I didn’t want to hurt anymore. I took well over the recommended dose of aspirin. I had accepted that it was my time to go. The last thing I had to do before finishing was tell my only friend goodbye. I called Elaina and she immediately knew something was wrong. She began questioning me and I eventually told her what I was planning to do. Your bride immediately dropped what she was doing and came to my rescue. With her emergency flashers on she sped through town to get me to the nearest emergency room thirty minutes away. She stayed by my side in the tiny ER room and even removed my mom from the room when I desperately needed her to. She showed me a compassion that I didn’t deserve and her only thoughts were to get me better. That was the day that I knew Elaina was special. Even though she hadn’t passed the NCLEX yet
