Humans Are Causing Animal Extinction In a 2014 list, there were 4,500 endangered species, and much more vulnerable. This list keeps growing due to the neglectfulness of humans towards other species (“Animals on”). Humans are stealing habitats from animals for their own self-interest, unaware of the risks they are taking. People are illegally capturing and killing animals just to make money. Not to mention the climate on earth is rapidly changing and heating up due to the pollution rate. It is clear to see that humans take the animals on this Earth for granted. Animal extinction is a growing issue in this world and humans need to pay more attention to it.

Construction sites, cities, and airports are all examples of industrial development. Entire forests are cut down in order to create space for massive projects. These projects leave animals homeless and hopeless with nowhere to go. Roads built in the middle of forests are why roadkill is so common. Confused animals who have lost their homes walk onto a road and face certain peril. A study shows that due to land use, five evolutionary significant subspecies of caribou declined in population over a twenty-two year period (Kimantas). Animal extinction is something that will always be an issue if it is left as untouched as it is. Although there are already laws for illegal poaching, they need to be strictly enforced and followed. A way this can happen is to have guards watch over national parks to make sure all animals are not in danger. The consequences for being caught poaching should also be stricter than before. There should be an increase in jail time and the fines should be a larger amount of money. Habitat loss is another issue that can be controlled. A solution is to maximize the amount of space already used. Climate change is the simplest of these problems that humans can resolve. A solution that has already been put to use is going green. This solution is not always followed by people, but is very effective. Cutting down on the use of fossil fuels could reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the air. Recycling already used paper and plastic can save trees and does not release various gases into the atmosphere like trash does. Polluting highways should also have higher fines to enforce the law, and make people follow
First, poaching is a huge game being played. It hurts the animals or species that are being targeted, which causes them to increase their chances of extinction. Orietta C. Estrada, an animal and environmental writer, explains that poaching "is a crime fueled by a lucrative black market trade of animal parts"(onegreenplanet). To these people, it is all about the money. They do not bother to think about how much pain this creature may feel. The only thing they desire to obtain is the big dollars. The animals that are affected by this monstrous act are elephants, tigers, rhinoceros, Tibetan antelopes, gorillas, and great apes(animalpoachers.weebly). We, as humans, mistreat the animal population. On a smaller scale, the human population wastes domestic and wild, animals for medical testing, for their fur, and for entertainment such as dog fighting. These things may not seem to be globally threatening, yet the constant waste of certain species of animals and the destruction of an animal's natural habitat will lead to the endangerment and eventually the extinction of the species. Furthermore, many people are unaware that the world is currently in the midst of the largest mass extinction in history.
When most people think of environmental problems, pollution, global warming, and climate change usually come to mind. One environmental issue that Americans do not really pay attention to is the poaching of innocent wild animals. Poaching is illegal and performed for commercial profit, meaning that hunters in spite of the law, kill the animals and sell their body parts and their hides for large amounts of money. This horrible act has afflicted many environmentalists for years and in spite of laws, this sickening crime has yet to be stopped. Poaching is not only unethical, but wrong and inhumane and this generation can put an end to it by taking action.
Extinction is no longer just a natural process. It is an enemy, slowly changing our world into a barren wasteland where life is as rare as a flower in the Arctic Circle's winter. The wolf, the tiger, the caribou, the elephant, the bison, the cheetah, the sequoia cactus, the redwood tree – all of these and so many more things are on the verge of disappearing from our planet forever. Extinction is the most pressing environmental issue of our time, because if it continues the way it is going without anything being done to counteract its causes and consequences, there will soon be no environment left for there to be debates about.
Since 10,000 BC, following the last ice age, a variety of living things are gone as a result of human life. People not only do one thing harmful to life, they do dozens. It is disgusting that these harmful activities are still be practiced. Amphibians are being affected the more then animals. Over a century ago, humans fought animals for dominance of the landscape and we regrettably won, now they’re in need of our protection. The Government and Organizations have come to the rescue of wildlife species all across the U.S. Their main goal is to protect wildlife species from over harvesting and also their loss of habitat due to industrial and residential development. The beauty and curiosity of wildlife captivates all of us for different reasons. For certain species, they are the link to our existence Animals are not being hunted into extinction because the government is protecting certain wildlife areas and are controlling the animal populations within those certain areas. While increasing a wildlife species population and removing from the endangered species list, a predator such as the gray wolf, is sure to be seen as a success to some and a threat to others.
Poaching and overfishing is a big problem that we are facing. Some people do not like to poach, for they poach just to stay alive. Fishermen overfish because a combination of decreasing profit and high consumer demands. This shows that people rely on these rhinos and fish to be able to put food on the table, it shows that we need each other. Nature is like jenga if you take one peace we could all go down with it. Humans are the cause of environmental damaging things like acid rain and global warming. People also damage other species by killing them till extinction or causing things like oil spills that cause them to die. Why destroy the only place the human species lives on, instead people can spend their time restoring the planet and making it better, they can learn to coexist with other species instead of learning how to be the dominant and overpowering species.
There were 5 mass extinctions in the past, with the latest one more known to man, the Cretaceous-Tertiary mass extinction that caused the wiped out of the dinosaurs. Though the latest one happened 65 million years ago, something representing this phenomenon of mass extinction is underway in our era. While past mass extinctions were caused by natural forces, and asteroid, climate change and sea level’s changes were thought to be the culprit, this time the actor behind is not natural, and it is us Human Beings. It might occur to many that the current trend of animal extinction has no consequences on us, but in fact it is not true. Many of the endangered species does matter to us significantly. In this paper, using examples of some neglected critical endangered species as main headings, I will look into different forms of human activities that had led to their losses, and also more importantly how these losses could have impacted on us.
Humans are destructive. Not a lot of us think about how what we do affects the world around us. We almost act like we are the only ones on this planet. We go around polluting and destroying our world with no regard for our actions. The things that live out in the wild are paying the price for it. Every day that passes there is another animal or plant that is placed on an endangered list. This is happening at an alarming rate. Because of man’s desire to expand and conquer their surroundings, there are animals and plants that are on the brink of extinction that will not be around for our kids and future generations to enjoy if something is not done about it now. This problem has been going on for hundreds of years. There are animals and plants that can only been seen in paintings or early photography. It is because of our early ancestors that we have this problem today and we have to do more to prevent more animals and plants from disappearing forever.
According to World WildLife Fund, many ecosystems around the world are being destroyed, eliminating many plant and animal species that inhabit them (“Pollution”).
Many countries across the world have not got an endangered species act that is strong enough to protect varying species from the destruction of humans. All over the globe humans are determined in building more houses and roads to supply the growing population of it's residence, making their lives easier but not sparing a thought to the many habitats, lives and even species that they will destroy when doing so. A recent local case has been the building of the BNRR. When building houses and roads fields, rivers, ponds, and reservoirs get destroyed along with many animals habitat, leaving them with no where to live and will probably die. The whole point of crop farming (monoculture) is to remove a mixed population of trees, shrubs etc and replace it with a dense population
Poaching is only one of the leading causes for animals being on the endangered species, so with all these poachers we need to protect the animals more closely. Animals that are close to extinction need to be placed into a zoo or sanctuary so they can flourish. People need to do this for the animals, they may not like it but it helps get their numbers up.
Prevent dangerous climate change by phasing out fossil fuels (oil, coal, gas) and replacing them with clean renewable energy such as solar.
Everyone’s all seen those wildlife shows on tv. The shows on National Geographic and such, showing animals in beautiful environments, everything lush and growing and nothing at all wrong that could threaten these creatures and places. But, have anyone seen the other side? The side where all these beautiful creatures and plants starve, are decimated by predators that have never been there before, and sometime even become poisoned by their very own homes and habitats? Of course no one has. That doesn’t mean that its not happening. It is happening, and its happening everywhere. And guess who is to blame? People. Society. Humans as a race pollute the environment, hunt animals simply for their parts, fish way more than humans will ever need just for the sake of money, introduce new species to new places for our own gain, and even purposefully destroy entire regions just for human expansion. And its starting to take its toll. While it is true that nature is constantly in flux and certain species come and go, humans are causing more species to disappear in the past few hundred years then nature has ever caused since the age of the dinosaurs, and therefore it is up to humans to repair the damage caused, be it cleaning the environment and habitats of these creatures, or taking more direct action to protect and preserve the species that are on the brink of extinction.
