We, as humans, mistreat the animal population. On a smaller scale, the human population wastes domestic and wild, animals for medical testing, for their fur, and for entertainment such as dog fighting. These things may not seem to be globally threatening, yet the constant waste of certain species of animals and the destruction of an animal's natural habitat will lead to the endangerment and eventually the extinction of the species. Furthermore, many people are unaware that the world is currently in the midst of the largest mass extinction in history.
The human population's use of domesticated and wild animals is both horrific and dangerously frivolous. For example, one might examine the usage of vivisection, or animal testing. Over fifty million animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits, and mice are killed in laboratories each year worldwide and are subjected to a myriad of painful procedures. They are burned, starved, shocked, mutilated, kept in isolation, poisoned, drugged, and electrocuted, among other tortures. Although many supporters of vivisection believe that it is necessary to test products on animals in order to ensure that our children are protected from numerous dangers, many doctors do not believe this. Cardiac Surgeon Moneim A. Fadali, M.D. sums up these doctors' beliefs. "Animal models differ from their human counterparts. Conclusions drawn from animal research, when applied to human disease, are likely to delay progress, mislead and do harm to the patient." As mentioned above, the frivolous use of animal fur for coats, hats, and other garments and entertainment such as the violent dog fighting also add to the waste of many animals.

Unfortunately, the previous material is rendered completely ineffectual to many people due to the fact that there seems to be no surface global impact on humans. This is not true. The mistreatment of animals and the destruction of their habitats are global issues because the mass extinction of the earth's species will eventually cause our own downfall. Each creature on Earth serves a specific purpose or function and, as these creatures are unable to perform these functions due to extinction, the lack of biodiversity will eventually reach and exterminate the entire human population.

On a day to day basis, most people take for granted the lives we get to live, and put too much value on the extra things such as materialistic items. Also, the majority of humans are too invested in their personal lives or with themselves that they do not look at the big picture of how what we are doing now will effect us later. The reason I found this so fascinating was that it made me remember the fact that all species will inevitably be extinct, just with the connection that even all great nations will soon crumble such as Egypt, one of the greatest nations that had ever lived, but have had its empire destroyed from the Roman empire, whose empire has also soon been crumbled from other countries. With the extinction of human beings, there could be a possibility of other species still able to survive, or no other species that are left to survive on the planet. Throughout history, beginning as early as 500 BC, animals have been used to test products that will later be utilized by humans (“Animal Testing” 4), what isn’t publicly discussed is the way it will leave the animals after the process is done. Many innocent rabbits, monkeys, mice, and even popular pets such as dogs are harmed during the testing application of cosmetics, medicine, perfumes, and many other consumer products (Donaldson 2). Nevertheless, there are many people whom support the scandal because "it is a legal requirement to carry out animal testing to ensure they are safe and effective” for human benefit (Drayson). The overall question here is should it even be an authorized form of experimentation in the United States, or anywhere else? The fact of the matter is that there are alternatives to remove animals out of the equation for good (“Alternatives” 1). They are cheaper, and less invasive than the maltreatment of the 26 million innocent animals that are subjected to the heartlessness of testing each year (“Animal Testing” 4). All in all, due to the harsh effects of animal testing, it should be treated as animal cruelty in today’s society.
Humans are destructive. Not a lot of us think about how what we do affects the world around us. We almost act like we are the only ones on this planet. We go around polluting and destroying our world with no regard for our actions. The things that live out in the wild are paying the price for it. Many people try to misunderstand the nature of life that animals just have, and are unable to consider the actual laboratory procedures and techniques that these creatures tend to be submitted. Biodiversity loss can lead to extinction, and hurt human life. It is our responsibility to take care of the environment. We bring in machines that harm the environment and destroy animal life. We need to limit ourselves on how much land and resources we consume. In addition scientists causing pain, most drugs that pas successfully in animals fail in humans. It is qualified as a bad science. Above all, animals have rights not to be harmed even though the Animal Welfare Act does not provide them even with minimal protection. The law does not find it necessary to use current alternatives to animals, even if they are obtainable. Animal testing should be banned due to animal rights, ethical issues, alternative ways and the unreliability of test results in humans.
Everyone’s all seen those wildlife shows on tv. The shows on National Geographic and such, showing animals in beautiful environments, everything lush and growing and nothing at all wrong that could threaten these creatures and places. But, have anyone seen the other side? The side where all these beautiful creatures and plants starve, are decimated by predators that have never been there before, and sometime even become poisoned by their very own homes and habitats? Of course no one has. That doesn’t mean that its not happening. It is happening, and its happening everywhere. And guess who is to blame? People. Society. Humans as a race pollute the environment, hunt animals simply for their parts, fish way more than humans will ever need just for the sake of money, introduce new species to new places for our own gain, and even purposefully destroy entire regions just for human expansion. And its starting to take its toll. While it is true that nature is constantly in flux and certain species come and go, humans are causing more species to disappear in the past few hundred years then nature has ever caused since the age of the dinosaurs, and therefore it is up to humans to repair the damage caused, be it cleaning the environment and habitats of these creatures, or taking more direct action to protect and preserve the species that are on the brink of extinction.
Humans have destroyed animals and vegetation by clearing land and “developing” it into land for farming, housing, factories, roads, and for other uses than what it was intended for. Domesticating animals and producing crops in mass production has made a major impact on our natural resources. Over utilizing natural resources has disturbed the ecological balance of the environment leading to the extinction of species, polluting of water and air, and interrupting the natural food chain (Sanderson, 2002). Without people to help regulate and protect some of these lands it could be catastrophic for many species of animals, and plants (Conservation of Natural Resources). If we want our future generations to see the plants and animals that we see today then we must protect our wildlife and conserve our natural resources.
Many scientists have declared that humans are the cause of the next mass extinction. One way that humans have pushed the earth to the next mass extinction is through the process of global warming. Scientists spent time studying the mechanisms of climate change on ecosystems and concluded that there is a major link between these two (7). Overpopulation of humans is one of the main causes of the higher extinction rates (1, 2). It causes humans to invade other habitats that other organisms used to dominate. Also, it results in a lack of resources for the species. This overpopulation also causes overconsumption by humans on earth (1). The overconsumption results in too much predation on other species for food or for pleasure. Many other species provide resources that humans want for various forms of pleasure, so they are killed or manipulated as an industry. There are some areas that had little to no human influence like the protected national park only a short distance from Bangkok, Thailand. This area was very healthy the first few trips there, but, as humans have slowly invaded this area, the scientists have been able to notice the declining health of this forest.
