All over the world prisoners, human rights are at stake once they enter a correctional facility. These human rights that are due to anyone that is human regardless of the crime they have committed. Today more than ever inmates face these issues not just in the United States but globally. These human rights violations include “Far too many prisoners are held in conditions that threaten their health, safety, and human dignity on a daily basis” (American Civil Liberties Union,2018). These conditions that jeopardize the mental health, sanitation and equal protection for all people. These basic rights are based on shared values like dignity, fairness, equality, respect and independence” (Equality and Human Rights Commission,2018). In the United States correctional system human violations are common from solitary confinement to unsanitary prison conditions. Solitary confinement of inmates has raised issues of humans rights violations. An inmate being confined to a self-contained prison cell for 22 to 23 hours with little to no human contact produces new issues for inmates who are victims of solitary confinement.
