How music influences personality

A great amount of people listens to music which sometimes influences their life. Some of them listen to music in order to relax but there are people who create their lifestyle owing to the music they love. Of course there are many other reasons why music is listened to. All reasons cannot be so easily written down since all people are different and the reasons for the choice of their favourite genre of music are different as well. People can listen to music in order to sleep better, to laugh, to cry, to be happy, to dance etc. When music is played in a shop people are likely to buy more than if there was silence. Music and personality are connected and some people's thoughts can be evoked by the melody of songs they listen to. People have been influenced by music for a long time. Songs were sung in the past already when there were simpler instruments than nowadays. “We have no rich evidence of music from the Prehistoric Period. There were found only fragments of musical instruments from the Stone Age and it is approximately 600 000 BC” (Cmíral 188, as translated by Tereza Dvořáková). As it can be seen nowadays music have remained an important part of mankind. People are brought to the mood they want to be in. Music helps to feel what a person wishes to feel, and therefore there is a great amount of genres of music for people with all possible personalities. We are going to discuss one example of behaviour of people who enjoy pop music which is modern music with hits that are usually played on the radio and at a disco. “Pop music lovers are hard-working and have high self-esteem, researchers suggest that they tend to be less creative and more uneasy” (Cherry). A person who is hard-working probably uses pop music to release the... ... middle of paper ... ...people have their own style based on music which affects their whole life and other people only use music for their enjoyment, relax and other reasons but it does not influence them so much. Creating new songs, listening to them, singing and everything that is connected to music have had a strong impact on people. When listening to music it takes people's mind off daily routine. Slow relaxing music usually has calming effects on people whereas heavy metal, which is very loud, often evokes strong emotions.
