THE MISSION TO KILL OSAMA BIN LADEN

This was not the first time, but it was the worst. Americans stood dumbfounded as the beautiful towers fell to the ground. New York City’s famous Twin Towers crumbled, engulfed in a cloud of smoke due to the work of the Islamist terrorist group, al Qaida. Many innocent people were murdered on September 11, 2001. Al Qaida’s victory was short lived and their leader, Osama bin Laden, knew he had to hide after he attacked the world’s most powerful country. Bin Laden knew the United States would find him, maybe not today, or next month, or not even next year but some day. Although we could have captured him the United States was right to kill Osama bin Laden because it was the only way to be sure he paid for his crimes.

Many Americans say that Osama bin Laden deserved to die, but some say we should have captured him. White House counterterrorism advisor John Brennan states “If we had the opportunity to take bin Laden alive, if he didn’t present any threat, the individuals involved were able and prepared to do that.” When bin Laden was located, he was loading his gun to fight the SEAL’s. Bin Laden was shot by the point man of the SEAL’s. One of the reasons America killed Osama bin Laden was that he eluded the U.S for ten years. In 1991 to 1996, bin Laden hid in Khartoum, Sudan. The U.S convinced Sudan to oust bin Laden and when Sudan did, bin Laden fled to Afghanistan and built his army known as al-Qaida. In 1996 to 2000, bin Laden was thought to be hiding in caves in Kandahar, even though he was living in luxury. Bin Laden escaped to Tora Bora in 2001, due to the U.S and Afghan raid in Kandahar.
