Over several decades, male athletes had been getting all of the resources in college, which limited females, but come 1972, this began to change. In 1972, female students and athletes began to get better opportunities in college and in high school. A legislative clause known as Title IX was originally part of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and was supposed to end discrimination against African Americans. It then became known for helping women’s athletics and women’s equality in general.
