Society is inevitable. It will always be there as a pleasure and a burden. Society puts labels on everything as good or bad, rich or poor, normal or aberrant. Although these stamps are accurate, most of them are misconceptions. In Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein has created a creature which he frequently refers to as the “monster”, who has been formed by society to become a wretch to Victor and those who come into contact with him. The monster was nurtured to be good by the actions of Victor, but once he came into contact with the rest of society, he became evil. These evil actions were directed towards Victor in an attempt to get revenge for neglecting him. Due to being in contact with society, the monster was changed from his goodness to an evil wretch.
Immediately after Victor’s creation comes to life, he refuses to accept his responsibility as the creator to this abomination of a creation. Victor does not shelter it, provide it with love or food, teaches his creation, or even cares for it. This angers the monster because he just wants to be loved but everyone is quick to judge him on his appearance and call him a monster. It is through these actions that the monster acts out his evil doings and murders those that Victor loves. The monster does this because he wants to seek revenge on Victor and wants to make him pay for neglecting him all throughout his life. The monster is seen as awful and evil in every aspect by every person, but if he was nurtured and cared for by Victor, and the human societies didn’t initially judge him based on his appearance, he could have kept the goodness that he originally had when he was
