Free speech is the right to express any opinions without censorship and film. But in recent years, the right of free speech has been abused in many situations, for example, hate speech. Then there is the question, is freedom of speech overrated? Yes, freedom of speech has an exaggerated worth to the point of being harmful. Freedom of speech is overrated because it is becoming an excuse for people to commit hate speech and there are even laws to protect those people. There is also the fact that freedom of speech holds the potential to harm people physically and emotionally. However, there are also pros to freedom of speech and that is if used correctly, it can help people speak up for themselves or for a certain interest or group. For example a case that occurred inside a conference centre at the Hilton garden Inn South Tennessee. Radio host and author Brannon Howse and Shahram hadian who is a pastor in Spokane, Washington and an Iranian-born former Muslim who has converted to Christianity had delivered talks regarding muslims. Their talks were titled, “Sabotaging America: Islam’s march towards supremacy” and “Genesis to revelation: A biblical worldview briefing on the past, current and future world events”. Their messages consisted of saying how Islam was a religion of violence. They actively hate spoke against the religion and selected a few Islamic teachings to justify the fact that they are terrorists. This justifies the fact that there are people who are spreading hate by abusing the right to freedom of speech. They should be punished but a certain law prevents that.That law is the first amendment law. This law of the united states protects the right to religion
