Is Poe a hero Poe had some bad habits like drinking and did some drugs. Most people wouldn't immediately think poe is a hero. Poe is a hero because he sets the bar high, takes risks and acts on his deepest convictions.

Edgar Allan Poe is a hero because he sets the bar high . one way hes sets the bar high is by writing what he wanted to write . edgar allan poe was a very good writer and poet but some people like his headmaster and step father told him not to write . even tho he was told to stop he still continued to write . “edgar allan poe’s evocative short stories and poems capture the imagination and interest of readers around the world”(bio1).having failed to attract attention as a poet turned to short stories . he entered a contest , he submitted five short stories and a few poems . a couple years early he joined the u.s. he published his poems not knowing how people would react . while he published he also contributed to burton's gentleman's magazine . “while still in boston he published at his own expense a thin volume , tamerlane and other poems ‘’’by a bostonian,”’ which passed and noticed that did so at such an early date he was only eighteen in spite of his reduced circumstances”(ian scott 976). After that he became a respected critic and essayist and he soon got ownership of the broadway journal. He was on the rise “it was the start of his career as a respected critic and essayist other publications which he contributed to where burton’s gentleman's magazine (1839-1840). Graham’s magazine (1841-1842) and evening mirror and godeys ladys book” (bio2)
