How Does Harvey Create Suspense In August Heat

Don't you sometimes feel weird when you imagine things and actually see it in real life. In the story of “August Heat” by W.F. Harvey. In the beginning of the story the main character James Clarence Whitecroft begins to draw his own image. Later through the story he counters that it and seems awkward to him. The author of this book uses three different types of suspense to create this story. This story gets really interesting when James does not expect the unexpected. In the beginning paragraph the author uses reversal to create suspense in the beginning of the story. For example James started to draw his vision and once he was done there was a angry looking man in court waiting to be punished for his actions he also drew a tombstone on the paper as he started to keep drawing what came out from his imagination.James thought this man was the devil and that was …show more content…

After James and Mrs.Atkinson talked awhile it got late so Mrs.Atkinson invited james to his house to talk more into details . It seems very strange why he invited him so very late after all he could of invite him some other day. After talking the entire day to each other Mrs.Atkinson told James to stay because it was really late. “The best thing we can do,” he continued,” is for you to stay here till twelve o’clock.” So James stayed and wrote of what had happened to him that day. In last resource that the author used to create suspense was foreshadowing. Foreshadowing was used because at the end of the story Mr.Atkinson began to sharpen his knives late night while James was writing down of what happened to him that day. Does that seem that Mrs.Atkinson wanted to kill James.
