The space program and NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has influenced Florida over the years. They have influenced the growth, economics, and culture in Florida. Space exploration has led to new discoveries and research. Without the space program and NASA and space exploration the world would not be where it is today with technology, communication, cultures etc. The space program and NASA has influenced Florida’s growth, economics, and culture. According to the film it says, “New buildings in every category, such as hospitals. Schools, like Satellite High School” (Part 9). This shows that the growth of Florida as well as their economics has been affected or influenced. Hospitals were built which could have brought in more
In American history the adjective used to describe the 1920s is known as the “Roaring” twenties. During the decade Florida had its own adjective used to describe the real estate market known as the “Land Boom”. The Florida land boom of the 20s was Florida’s first big real estate bubble. During the great land boom of the 20th century Florida saw tens of thousands of Americans flood to the state to move or purchase land. By looking at the how this development of real estate began, who was affected, and how the “Boom” became a soft clap by the end of the decade one can see the immediate impact this event had on the United States.
During the early 1920s, Florida was flourishing economically. Land sales were reaching planetary heights, tourism was booming, and new residents were coming in every day. By September 1926, the population of Dade County and the new City of Miami had blossomed to more than 100,000 and construction was all over. Although Florida was prosperous that was only on the surface, behind the scenes there existed a widespread of poverty. And things got even worst when the 1926 hurricane hit Florida. The hurricane was described by the U.S. Weather Bureau in Miami as "probably the most destructive hurricane ever to strike the United States." Severe flooding and wind damage weakened communities. Lake Okeechobee flooded and drown over 2,000 people in nearby communities. Many buildings that were a work in progress were damaged and discontinued, tourism was at an all-time low, and also many citizens lost their homes. And The Great Depression didn’t make things any easier. Florida was in trouble and in need of help.
Florida's agricultural production greatly increased during World War I and resulted in a real estate boom during the 1920's.
Perhaps the most critical moment that had occurred to the United States and the world of the last century is the Cuban Missile Crisis. The significance of this event was that it had brought the world to the closest it could ever be to a nuclear war. Millions of lives, cultures and infrastructure would have been lost if it was not splendidly dealt with. Yet, a man was able to prevent this devastation, and he was none other than President John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK) of the United States. How was he significant to the event? This research paper will discuss it with the points that are based on JFK’s characteristics. Hence, to provide an overview of this paper; the outbreak of nuclear warfare was prevented in the Cuban Missile Crisis specifically by John F. Kennedy’s many distinguished characteristics.
Space exploration has changed and developed since the first man was sent into space. Advanced rockets, new computer technology, and remote controlled robots are only a few of the things that made space travel possible. Even though this technology was efficient, it was not cheap. When a rocket was sent into space, only the capsule holding the astronauts returned to space. This expensive way of space travel was forever changed with the creation of the space shuttle. The Columbia space shuttle was important to space exploration because it used new technology that changed space travel, completed missions that other spacecraft could not, and brought new people into space.
...ial Plantations and Economy in Florida ed. Jane Landers (Gainesville: University Press of Florida, 2000). 136-149.
An organization that still thrives today, NASA was formed under President Dwight Eisenhower in 1975 as a result of the infamous Space Race. After the launch of Sputnik I, a satellite which orbited outside of Earth’s atmosphere, the United States was thrown into a panic believing that the USSR had surpassed the intellectually. NASA had a large roll in created many modern day technologies previously mentioned such as the microwave, cell phones, internet, aviation safety, and even the modern day CD. Many of which were a result of the difficulties and adjustments which had to be made when sending a man into space, and eventually, to land on the moon. This is not to mention the development of military and aircraft improvements which came from the organization.
The Space race has impacted every aspect of our modern lives. To start with it made the American public who at the end of the war were not interested in space look at Math and Science with respect.
Population is the major concern for Florida for many reasons. Increased population means more children, which calls for more schools. Leon Bouvier says from the "population of two point one million students in 1990 will increase to three point five million by the year 2020, and will expect fifty thousand new kids a year for the rest of the decade." To keep up with this growth two thousand eight hundred teachers will need to bee hired each year, and a new school will have to be built every week. Population growth will also include the elderly, as well as middle age people. This means the government will have to hire over twenty thousand new physicians, and over one hundred thousand new nurses. By the end of this decade fifty more hospitals will have to be built to keep up with growth.
There was a lot of cost when it came to John F. Kennedy’s goal of “landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth.” The biggest cost were the expenses of the program , it wasn't the loss of human life or doing whatever it took to beat the Soviet Union in the “Space Race” but the amount of money they put into it.
This essay is being written to prove that NASA spending has a negative impact on American society. Continuing NASA and the programs run by it is harmful to American society and Government. NASA harms the economy. NASA also harms the environment in which we live. And the money that NASA spends could be used to help solve problems in our country, not on another planet.
Space exploration during the 1960 set the stage for exploration around the world. During the 1960's a lot of first took place in space exploration. Space exploration during the 1960's was very important because it set the bench mark for space exploration and planet exploration. The other great push that helped space exploration during the 1960's is the Cold War. The Cold War was a political and military tension after World War II. The Cold War lasted from 1947 to 1991 This research paper will contain information on the major events that took place during the 1960's.
Surprisingly, the United States’ space program started with the Cold War. The Cold war pushed the United States and the Soviet Union into a space race in which both nations rapidly developed space programs and tried to best each other in space exploration (Cold War 1). The Kennedy Space Center was built in Florida as a control center which handled many of the shuttle launches into space (NASA 1). The Space Center was built in Florida for many specific reasons including climate and location (Matson 1). The rapid development of the Space program and the Kennedy Space Center significantly changed the development of the surrounding communities in various ways. The development of NASA and the Space Center was undoubtedly one of the most ambitious and influential undertakings of its time.
NASA is not a bad program at all. There are many things that the program has integrated from their research that people now use on an everyday basis. Many people golf, and the dimple design on the golfballs are from NASA (Gauthier). With the increasing number of memory foam mattresses being sold, that is another way that NASA has come into the lives of the American citizen.
By being in a very technologically advanced era, scientists can invent revolutionary devices never thought of. NASA is doing that right now and has been doing that since it began. They are not only climbing the stairs in space exploration but in the medical industry, too. Nevertheless, they are forever changing millions of lives by using all they have discovered. Most of all, they are teaching people a life lesson, to always use the things you have for the greater good. NASA has achieved profound success ever since their start in 1958 and they will continue to make discovery and innovation their first and foremost goal for years to come.
