Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games was a hunter who became part of a game where one girl and one boy from each district would fight till the death were there would be only one person standing for a punishment of the uprising. Another man Rainsford, a famous hunter from The Most Dangerous Game came to an island after falling of his ship. Later to be hunted by a man who had became bored with hunting just any ordinary animal. In these cases Katniss and Rainsford both have experienced the hunter becoming the hunted. Where humans become prey and where there is only one winner, throughout each story Katniss and Rainsford have shown many similar traits as a true survivor such as their intelligence, independence, and their will to survive. …show more content…
During The Hunger Games, Katniss lit fires to lead other districts in the opposite direction from where she was going and Rainsford from The Most Dangerous Game lead footprints in the opposite direction from where he was going. They both also had used high grounds when sitting or sleeping in a tree in order to hide from their predators. While out in the woods having someone hunt you, you have to be fast acting which is exactly what both characters did in there individual stories. When getting chased by a herd of dogs he made another trap to try and slow down the dogs and later when the trap failed to catch a dog, he made the decision into the sea. Now katniss was fast acting when The Hunger Games first started she immediately got water and set a food trap, also when someone attempted to shoot her with an arrow her first reaction was to move and that's when her alliance Rue was hit the arrow instead if Katniss. At the beginning of the Game, Katniss identifies herself a girl from the seam, which provides her with a stoic strength. However, as the hunt progresses, Katniss questions this identity. As she observes the brutality of the Hunger Game, Katniss grows indignant. Ultimately, the heroine appears empathetic and distains causing sufferings as opposed to being a stoic girl.

The movie The Hunger Games, originally based on a book by Suzanne Collins, is about a place called Panem, which is ruled by the Capitol and has 12 districts within it. These 12 districts are separated founded on their economic statuses, meaning the higher the district, the more impoverished the residents are. There are 2 tributes that are chosen to participate, forcibly, in The Hunger Games each year. Each competitor is instructed to eliminate one another in order to survive and come out on top. There is only one tribute allowed to come out of the arena alive. Katniss lives in District 12, which is the most impoverished district of them all, and she volunteers as tribute in “the Reaping” when her sister is chosen to participate. In the novel Hunger Game, author Suzanne Collins narrates a girl name Katniss Everdeen who voluntarily replaces her younger sister, Prime, to be one of the tribute to participate in the hunger game. She is the family’s backbone after her father died in the mine accident and then the district only gives them a little compensation which it’s not enough for her family’s living. Soon, they run out of money and suffer from hunger. They live in the District 12 where it’s a poor and food shortage region. People often suffer from hunger and Katniss is of no exception. In my class we have studied themes and key ideas such as Power of the Capitol, Competition against other tributes and Sacrifice for what Katniss acts and does in the Hunger Games. It has often been said that there is nothing new under the sun. In this vein, authors across all literary genres often borrow themes and plot from the stories of long ago. Many of those authors choose to borrow from the rich mythology of the ancient Greeks. Suzanne Collins has been asked on numerous occasions where the idea for The Hunger Games originated. She readily admits that the characters and plot come from Greek mythology and more specifically, from Theseus and the Minotaur (Margolis 30). One familiar with both both stories can easily recognize the identical framework upon which each of these stories are built. Both Theseus and Katniss Everdeen, Collins’ heroine, volunteer to go into battle for their respective homelands, they both fight beasts of strange origin, and they are both brave in battle and emerge victorious, but it is the uniqueness of the characters that makes each story appropriate for the time period and audience to which it belongs. Collins modernizes the classic hero of Theseus by changing his gender, his motivations and altering his selfish personality, and by doing these things she creates a heroine that better resonates with today's audience of young adults.

In “The Lottery,” Mrs. Hutchinson says, “`It isn’t fair,’ she said. A stone hit her on the side of the head” (Jackson 7). Mrs. Hutchinson does not even try to get away, she only stands there and lets the townspeople kill her. She does not try to stand up to her society at all and she shows how she does not even try to change her fate. She only stands still and does not try to get away. Though these stories both have a female protagonist, The Hunger Games has a protagonist who stands up to her society in time to save herself. In The Hunger Games, the main character, Katniss, is one of the two participants still alive at the end of The Hunger Games. She and her fellow district mate, Peeta Mellark, are both still alive. The government says only one of them may win. Katniss convinces Peeta to eat deadly berries. They are just about to eat the berries when they are both declared the winners. Katnisss is reacting to the rule change. She is showing how she is not going to stand by and let the government control her. Katniss shows people should stand up for what they believe in and to not give into their society and to not be controlled. Both of the stories have a female protagonist differing how and when they stand up for themselves.
A time where Katniss displayed determination is when her sister, Primrose Everdeen, is initially chosen. Katniss immediately steps forward and exclaims ‘ “I volunteer” I gasp “I volunteer as tribute”‘. This quote demonstrates Katniss’ determination to protect her sister. Katniss repeats herself to reinforce the fact that she doesn’t want her sister to go to the Hunger Games. Katniss’ determination is shown while she is in the arena and was fatigued and dehydrated. She asks for water but a parachute does not come, she then realized she was near a water source. While Katniss was stumbling she thought ‘Every step is an effort, but I refuse to stop. The first difference I saw in the Hunger Games was that people from different districts are not supposed to talk to each other, let alone go to another district. It was against the law to go to another district. Katniss did not like to talk to others anyway, just being by herself in the woods made her more comfortable. She did not like the socialization factor mostly because she thought she was not as good or as classy as the others. Her personality traits suffered as well, from not being more outgoing as a child. She thought as long as she kept to herself, she would be okay. Without these social connections, Katniss would have lost the key functions in our society today.
