The Crucible was based on the Salem Witchcraft Trials, but the author Arthur Miller made changes to either make the story better or if he didn’t like some part of the story. The author used the names of the actual people in the witch trials. He changed little things about a couple of characters. This was to make his vision of how he wanted the story so that it would be more entertaining. If he would have wrote it as it was in the real Salem Witch Trials then he would have lost some entertainment for the reader. The first difference is that Abigail Williams was 11 in real life. In the book she was 17 years old. The author changed this so it would not have been as weird for John Proctor to have affair with a 17 year old instead of a 11 year old. In the real story there was no proof that John Proctor had an affair. The author changed this to make the story more entertaining. In the Crucible Tituba was accused first then she started snitching. This was added for more entertainment this change added the scene where the are beating Tituba through the street saying that if she doesn’t admit it that she is gonna be killed. Tituba is a smart slave and admits to witchcraft. After she admits she puts the blame on other girl in the town. That is more entertaining than three girl just being accused. Another change that was made from Crucible and Salem Witch Trials is Giles Corey's death. In the Salem Witch Trials he was pressed to death but it took two days for him to die. In the movie that was written by the same man who wrote the book, Author Miller, Giles Corey was still pressed to death but he died right away. In the book it just was stated that he was pressed and that was it. The author changed this so that the watcher could watch him died but it wouldn’t take awhile for the Giles Corey to
