William Shakespeare shaped an era of theatre for the whole world, but many other influential and important people lived during his time and shaped the world in different ways. Firstly, Ivan IV Vasilyevich, ruler of Russia, shaped the history of Russia through his reign from January 16th, 1547 through March 28th, 1584. Far away, on the other side of Europe, Queen Elizabeth I ruled England. She shaped many things in England, like the church, defending their beliefs from the Catholic Spanish beliefs. Finally, Galileo Galilei shaped the face of modern science, especially physics, through his pioneers and observations. During William Shakespeare’s lifetime, many other prominent people lived including Ivan “The Terrible,” Queen Elizabeth I of England, and Galileo Galilei. Queen Elizabeth I was born on the September 7, 1533 in Greenwich England. She claimed the throne of England at the age of 25 and held it for 44 years, keeping England safe through religion wars with Spain, and through political and religious turmoil. Surprisingly, she ruled by herself, without a husband, even though masses of men tried to suit her, earning her the title of “The Virgin Queen.” She was able to avoid a full on holy war with the other superpower of the age, Spain, for much of her reign. Finally, in 1585, Elizabeth entered the fray to help a rebellion against the Spanish in the Netherlands. Spain then set its sights on England, but the English navy was able to defeat the infamous Spanish Armada in 1588, successfully defending England.
