"A man, as a general rule, owes very little to what he is born with- a man is what he makes of himself." -Alexander Graham Bell. It took bell five years from the start process of the invention to starting his own telephone company. During those years, Bell's company was one of the top companies in the business. This all had started the beginning of telephones and their companies. Alexander Graham Bell has positively benefitted modern society by improving the way people communicate and leading by example to never give up.

The only two things that people were capable of doing is talking verbally or writing letters to each other. Everyone was used to this type of environment and never had telephones so they don’t know any differently anyway. "With this success, Alexander Graham Bell began to promote the telephone in a series of public demonstrations. At the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia, in 1876, Bell demonstrated the telephone to the Emperor of Brazil, Dom Pedro, who exclaimed, “My God, it talks!” " ("Alexander Graham Bell"). Once he had went public about his invention, more and more people found out about it. His first showing of the telephone was at the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia. Having the Emperor of Brazil there, could make it go even more public then it already was. When people were finding out about it, it was making them get excited. Now, because of him going to inventions and exhibitions people for looking forward to having the capability to talk verbally over a phone and not having to write letters. On June 2nd, 1875, Bell had finally thought that had made the first invention of the telephone. Then on July 9th, 1877, The Bell telephone company was officially formed. (Feinstein 68). The creating on the telephone took a lot longer than expected because of all the trial and error Bell had to do. (Feinstein 63). Trial and error was a big part of this invention. The more and more they tried, the more they though the invention was impossible to create, but they still never gave up. Once they figured out what didn’t work and what not to do, it became a lot easier for them to continue. "Over the next 18 years, the Bell Company faced over 550 court challenges, including several that went to the Supreme Court, but none were successful." ("Alexander Graham Bell"). Going through this many court cases was very hard. It was a real downer to Bell and after so many cases he didn’t have a lot of confidence left. Even though none of these cases were successful, he still went on and 150,000 people just in the United States owned a telephone. Once more and more people were finding out about telephones and buying them, his confidence went up and he still didn’t give up. During this time of the invention process, Bell struggled, because he had no fully functioning instruments to work with. ("Alexander Graham Bell"). Without the capability to have these instruments that actually worked, the process became harder. His number one goal was to create this telephone and he worked through all the problems and still found a way to move on with these instruments that
