"A house divided can not stand." This quote, from Abraham Lincoln, ended up relating quite a bit to his presidency. Abraham Lincoln positively impacted our society by holding our nation together during the civil war and giving all his effort to try and free slavery. Abraham Lincoln positively impacted society because he held our country together during the war. For example, when the union leaders were leading us to defeat, he changed up the leadership a few times until what he had worked ("Remembering...").In doing so, he was able to keep the confidence and loyalty to the union from both the citizens and the solders. Next, Lincoln attempted to make a plan that would allow the slave owners to be compensate for the loss of their slaves ("Abraham Lincoln"). In America, slaves were always considered to be property. Paying slave owners for their slaves would keep the southerners happy, Lincoln thought. It would be unconstitutional for the government to just take their property, and paying southerners for their property would keep piece and be constitutional. This war, overall, ended up being fought over slavery. By trying to figure out the best ways to win battles, he was finding the way to free slaves. Second, at the battle of fort Sumter, he asked for 70,000 troops to fight. (Judson 64). If he was to get as many troops as he can rally, America would have the best odds. The bigger an army is in numbers, epically when the equipment is pretty evenly matched, the better it will be. Finally, Lincoln allowed runaway slaves to fight in the union army ("Abraham Lincoln"). In doing so, he was gaining more forces for his army, and also gaining solders who have a strong drive to fight for this cause. Who better to fight slavery then one who was once there and still has family and friends who are there? In conclusion, Lincoln helped many people by giving his all to ending
