It's just a group of magazines, what is the big deal? Although many people think of media in this matter, media actually plays a significant role in our society today. It is all around us, from the shows we watch on television, the music we listen to on the radio, to the books and magazines we read each day. Nowadays, the images that the media is portraying of beauty is hard to attain. In addition media and social perception shapes our own thoughts of whether something is and is not beautiful . Furthermore, media is becoming very powerful on daily basis, encouraging women to have to live up to the “ideal” standards of beauty and success portrayed by the media. In order to achieve a socially accepted body image, women often feel pressured to conform to social expectations not only about their appearance but also about their behavior. As matter of fact, women may pursue deviant sexual behaviors because of the way that society sexualizes them and pressure them to be more sexual. Nevertheless, women are especially targeted by the media when the media promotes sexual content and encourages sexualiztion, therefore, more and more women begin to develop sexual attitudes and behaviors, and make risky sexual linked choices in their lives. In addition, when women see in magazines and other media sources that women are successful because of how much skin they show, the women seeing the media accept that as a norm and start to show more of their skin in order to be successful and accepted. Besides, the increase of sexuality is associated with the increase of body image. According to “Body Image and Female Sexual Functioning and Behavior” McClintock claims that there is a strong relation between sex and body image. “ At first sight, sexuality and body image are obviously connected. There is no doubt that physical appearance is a major component of the experiences of women’s sexuality” (McClintock). Basically, what McClintock is saying here is that there is an obvious connection between sexuality and women’s body image. On the other hand, women’s appearance is important in order for men to be attracted to them. Moreover, in order for a women to be will fitted in a relation as the perfect sexual partner of a men, she has to look beautiful and appeal as attractive. “ In Western cultures, a woman's appeal as a sexual partner seems to be heavily dependent on her visual stimulus value for her partner” (Hall).
