Recommended: Pros and cons of honor codes

Honor Codes are seen in many diverse school systems from kindergarten to twelfth grade. Some may even say containing an Honors Code might be ineffective in order to prevent plagiarism. An Honors sure code should be established and maintained in Windham High School in order to improve a student and their work academically, prevent plagiarism and also because it’s easy to adapt and fit into the school system. One reason why Windham High School should establish and maintain an honor code is because the student will learn more independence while improving themselves and their work. The student will not longer rely on the internet and or a peer for their work resulting in critical thinking being used more often. Some exclaim that an Honors Code does little to none to prevent cheating for example it’s discussed in Source C that, “ signing a piece of paper will suddenly cause a cheater to change his ways.” (Source C) While these assumptions make sense, the article ends with an explanation of “students convicted of lying or cheating can expect to receive punishments ranging from suspension to expulsion.” (Source C) Not only does cheating or plagiarism come with consequences but most students will stay away from cheating but the embarrassment of being caught prevents students from cheating as well.
