I fully heartedly agree with your post. The only way we can preventing another injustice, such as the Holocaust, from occurring is to educate ourselves and future generations. Knowledge is power. As you said, we also need to simply love one another or at the least just be accepting of those who different then us, whether that be because of religion, skin color, ethnicity, etc.
Elie Weisel once said this: “I know and I speak from experience, that even in the midst of darkness, it is possible to create light and share warmth with one another; that even on the edge of the abyss, it is possible to dream exalted dreams of compassion; that it is possible to be free and strengthen the ideals of freedom, even within prison walls; that even in exile, friendship becomes an anchor.” Compassion is not something that is easy to understand, or even easy to show sometimes. The Holocaust was a difficult time to comprehend: how could one man have so much power and hate towards a society of people that he started a genocide? There may never be the right emotional explanation to describe the disturbing events that happened during the Holocaust, but Elie Weisel was able to share his. His message was that compassion and friendship can refrain someone from sinking so deep into a dark sea like the Holocaust.
Unfortunately, indifference is easy, tempting, and seductive, but there have been groups and people that have stood up for what they believe. Although, people believe these genocides can not happen now, there are many tragedies that are going on. We can learn to get involved and care for those who feel worthless from the speech. Feeling worthless or not important is worse than punishments. It is vital that we ask ourselves about the lessons we learn from the consequences of action and inaction during the Holocaust and other human rights tragedies. This can allow us not to make the same mistake

When I signed up for this course, I had limited knowledge of the holocaust and was not very interested in its history. This course ended up being one of my favorites and the most informational courses that I have taken. Other Political leaders such as Mao Zedong and Joseph Stalin had committed mass murders that caused a much higher victim rate than Hitler, so my thoughts were that the holocaust was just another tragedy in human history. This class has given me a different perspective in the way I view the holocaust. It has personalized this horrific event in that it begs a person ask themselves how could this tragedy take place? How come the Jews and the world did not do more to prevent it from happening? The course has spiked my interested in the the holocaust in that I have found that if I come across a holocaust program while watching the television, I will stop to watch that show or read a holocaust article that I would not have read in the past. The Holocaust was one of the most tragic and trying times for the Jewish people. Hundreds of thousands of Jews and other minorities that the Nazis considered undesirable were detained in concentration camps, death camps, or labor camps.
