However, the most recent remake Annie (2014) directed by Will Gluck, written by Aline Brosh Mckenna, starring Will Smith, Quevenzhane Wallis, and Cameron Diaz, was actually quite a disappointment compared with Annie (1982) written by Carol Sobieski and Thomas Meehan, starring Aileen Quinn, Albert Finney and Carol Burnett. Although it was a nice movie, Annie (2014) failed to contain key connections and details with Annie (1982) to make it a better movie. Quevenzhane’s character Annie was a lot more passive and a little less witty than Aileen Quinn’s character Annie. From how they responded to their caretakers to how they escape their kidnappers, Annie had become softer as a character in the 2014 remake. For example, Annie (2014) changed the part where in Annie (1982), Annie physically fights off a group of boys that were harassing the stray dog that she helps and ends up taking in. Although this was not the most important part of the movie, it played a major role in the joining of the girls and their dogs. It was also one of our introductions to the tough streak that our sweet little Annie possessed in her character. Another example would be the kidnapping scene. In both movies, Annie was kidnapped by some people who pretended to be her birth parents in order to get the money reward that had been set to connect Annie with her real mother and father. How the two girls escape their situation is what really set these scenes apart. In Annie (2014), Annie relied on fans to help her and spread word around to get her away from the parent imposters. Annie in Annie (2014), did not bravely risk her life trying to fight off and run away from her attackers. Annie (in Annie 1982) was very clever and created a situation so that she could escape. Even though, she was a small young girl, she showed an extreme amount of bravery and that is something that really should not have been removed from her character in the remake. It was disappointing when watching the remake to find that our Annie that we grew to love so much and been changed so drastically! A lot of us were looking forward to a remake that was closer to the Annie we know and
