According to www.aids.gov, 1.2 million people have HIV in the United States. 1 out of 8 living with HIV are unaware that they have the illness. HIV affects people and families all over the world, but should people be able to take their own HIV test? This topic has had a lot of controversy in the previous years. HIV is an illness that affects a lot of people. Walgreens got the permission to give HIV tests. The test is called OraQuick. It works this way, you buy a kit at Walgreens or other stores that supply it. Then in the kit there is a tube with liquid in it and a stick with pads. First you take the tube and put it in a tube holder, with the stick you rub your upper gums once and your lower gums once. After, you put that in the liquid and you get results in twenty minutes. It is very private and you wouldn’t have to tell anyone you even did the test. The dominant biomedical model of health does not take into consideration lay perspectives (SITE BOOK). Lay perspectives go into detail about ordinary people’s common sense and personal experiences. A cultural perspective, like the Hmong cultures perspective on health, is considered a lay perspective. Unlike the Hmong culture, where illness is viewed as the imbalance between the soul and the body, the dominant biomedical model of health views health in terms of pathology and disease (SITE THE BOOK). Although the Hmong culture considers spiritual and environmental factors, the dominant biomedical model of health only looks at health through a biological perspective, and neglects the environment and psychological factors that affect health. According to research, African American women face tougher hardships when dealing with depression. This is a research proposal examining how African American females rate their levels of depression. Yes, this country was founded on liberty and freedom of choice, there can be no denying this. The primary source of debate against vaccinations as an assault on liberty stems from parent’s opinion that this is in some way the government trying to tell them how to raise their children as children in many states must have current vaccinations to attend public school. With respect, the government can have authority as to how someone raises their children. The government has laws detailing what constitutes child endangerment and abuse and failure for parents to remain well outside of these lines can result in parental incarceration and the movement of children into the foster care system. Many more people suffer from clinical depression because they do not seek treatment. They may feel that depression is a personal weakness, or try to cope with their symptoms alone. On the other hand, some people are comfortable with admitting their symptoms and seeking help. Such a discrepancy may account for the differences in reported cases of depression between men and women, which indicate that more than twice the numbers of women than men are clinically depressed. According to the numbers of reported cases of depression, 25% of women and 10% of men will have one or more episodes of clinical depression during their lifetimes.

America has been the prime example of freedom for many years. It has been the symbol of adventure, self-advancement, and growth. However, American freedom has been stretched to fit into many different categories. There is freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to plan parenthood, and now, in Colorado and Washington, freedom to buy and sell marijuana. America has fought the war on drugs for decades. Legalizing marijuana is now seen as an “experiment” that may turn out to be beneficial for the nation. Yet, drugs are never something to be experimented with and drugs will never be beneficial. Drugs should never be legalized; they are not healthy for the body, they affect the birth process, they influence youth in a negative manner, and they increase crime and tragedy.
