About Australia
Commonwealth of Australia, or shortly known as Australia is situated in the Southern Hemisphere. In total Australia has six states namely New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia. It also has two large mainland territories-the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). With an overall area of 7.7 million square kilometer it is the sixth-largest country in the world and hosts a population of 22.9 million. Its neighbouring countries include Indonesia, East Timor, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand.
History
Australia has a very interesting history. For not less than 40,000 years prior to European settlement in the later half of 18th century, Australia was colonised by aboriginals groups who belonged to approximately 250 language groups. It was discovered by Dutch in 1606; however, Australia's eastern half was claimed by Great Britain in 1770. This dispute was settled on 26th January 1788. With the passage of time and with the subsequent growth of the population the continent was further explored and five autonomous ‘Crown Colonies’. Now they are divided in six states and two main land regions.

December any ways is peak season and usually cheap flights and accommodations are not available. Equally bad choice is Easter and all school holidays. If you want to avoid tourists’ crowd, then February and March could be possible choices.
