In the beginning of Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Piggy is seen as a weak and cowardly character, allowing the boys to walk over him. Throughout the book, he becomes more confident. For example, one instance where Piggy is seen as insecure is at the first meeting on the island. Piggy tells Ralph, another fellow survivor, that he doesn’t want anybody to call him Piggy. Later, after using a conch to summon the boys to the area, Ralph reveals Piggy’s name. Instead of insisting that Piggy is not what he wanted to be called, the book states that “he went very pink, bowed his head, and cleaned his glasses again” (Golding 21). This change is negative because Piggy is them to call him by this name he didn’t want.
In Golding’s book, Lord of the Flies, Piggy learns to stand up for himself and have more self-confidence which is a positive change. Much work goes into musical , as was the case in “Catch Me If You Can”,which La Joya Middle School drama had the pleasure of watching on January 15, put on by El Diamante High School. The musical was directed by John Sorber and Michael Tackett. This amazing production included many talented actors such as Maverik Dakota Raven starring as Frank Abagnale Jr., Kiley Hoffman playing Brenda Strong, and Jonathan Johns as Carl Hanratty. This incredible play carried a strong lesson. As was seen the protagonist ran from his problems and pretended to be someone who he wasn't. The plot of this story showed us that we can't run from our problems, for that only worsens the situation and is a snowball for our problems.
Throughout the novel, Freak The Mighty, author Rodman Philbrick create a conflict for the two main characters, Max and Freak. If Maxwell had judged Freak by his appearance, they wouldn’t, most likely, become best friends. Perhaps if Max did not judge Loretta Lee, the supposed antagonist, by her disheveled appearance, Max might have realized that Loretta wasn’t a “bad guy”. Finally, if The Fair Gwen had not judged Max, Freak and Max would not have become friends. In an attempt to escape Killer Kane, the characters learn that one should not judge a person by their appearance.

Piggy’s leadership in the novel is portrayed as knowledgeable but lacks confidence from time to time. Piggy is shown to be a potential leader because of his wisdom. He portrays knowledge from time to time, for example, “We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. They’ll come when they hear us-” (12). This exhibits his knowledge of the art of survival. Even though in the novel, Piggy is shown as the weak link, his wisdom out powers his flaws. Although Piggy has lots of wisdom which makes him a potential leader, he lacks confidence. “Piggy opened his mouth to speak, caught Jack’s eye and shut it again.” (42) This proves that Piggy lacks confidence because he is afraid to express his thoughts. In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, it is evident that people act differently when put in certain situations. For example, when good people are put in a bad environment, they blur moral lines justifying the “greater good”. This can be observed through the actions of most of the boys, who misuse their power and treat people such as Piggy, Simon, and the littluns unfairly.
