Butler et al (2008) defines health prevention as the measures for early detection of departure from good health. Whereas Heath (2002) concurs that the role and function of the nurse emphasise on health promotion and illness prevention, the Department of Health (2010) emphasises on the prevention of diseases, prolonging life and promoting health rather than treatment.

NSW has many health initiatives and campaigns in place for practitioners of nutritional medicine. One mandatory health initiative in place within schools is the “fresh tastes at school”. It was created for students across Australia to acquire the taste for health foods and encourage them in the future to make healthy decisions (Healthy kids eat well, get active, 2005).
Modification of policy is needed with more agencies supervision to ensure that the policy on healthy diet and physical activities is being followed in the school setting by providing healthy food to the school children and annual school health screening is being carried out properly as mandated. Health and wellness are very important in the school setting with the involvement of school children to participate in the physical education throughout the school year. In addition to these basic literacy skills, health literacy also requires the knowledge of health topics. People with limited health literacy often lack knowledge or are misinformed about the body as well as the types and causes of disease. Without having this knowledge, they lack the knowledge that there is a relationship between lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise and the effects that an unhealthy lifestyle may cause greater risk of diseases and poor health effects. There are hundreds of majors to choose from, however, as college freshman, we can only pick one. Even so, some college students have a difficult time deciding between a major they are interested in and the major that will benefit them the most. There are also many students who do not know what they want to do with their lives at all. A possible solution for this confusion is to take personality tests. Tests such as the Kolb, Myers-Briggs, and Holland inventories can help college students, especially incoming freshman, explore their personality types and find what interests them. Later on, at school I learned more about the importance of health and wellness and how to be healthy. Through classes taken during my middle and high school years, I came to realize that Wellness and health are undoubtedly intertwined. They can’t exist without the other. Theses classes taught me how things that we do or foods that we eat on a daily basis can affect our health. Being healthy is not a one-time thing. It is a day-to-day aspiration.
