The physiological effects of yoga include decreased hear rate and blood pressure and the physical effects includes weight loss and increased muscle strength. These were reviewed. Finally, potential underlying mechanisms are proposed, including the stimulation of pressure receptors, leading to enhanced vagal activity and reduced cortisol.

The training camp was conducted through a self-controlled trial, at Government Medical College and Hospital, Aurangabad, in the Department of Physiology. A Total of 74 healthy subjects of both sexes was included in the study with an age group of 45-55 years, who have practiced Pranayama for one hour daily for two months. Fasting venous blood samples were collected on the first day & last day of the camp. The result was a reduction in serum concentration of malondialdehyde, from 3.79+0.75 n moles/ml on the first day of camp to 1.69+0.55nmoles/ml on the last day of camp (P<0.001). The results of study indicate that Pranayama can be cost effective & excellent technique to relieve stress & stress related disorders like hypertension, diabetes mellitus; cardiovascular heart diseases.
