In Greek Mythology there’s a lot of incest where the brother marries the sister or in this case, Cronus marrying his sister Rhea. They end up having about 6 children, one being Hades. Hades is brother to Zeus, god of the sky, and Poseidon, god of the seas. They united to overthrow their father Cronus “ and the Titan's to end their reign, claiming rulership over the cosmos” (Greek Gods and Goddesses, 2014). They decided to split the share after they defeated their father, this is how “Zeus [became the] god of the skies, Poseidon god of the sea and Hades god of the underworld” (Greek Gods and Goddesses, 2014). Hades, now being ruler of the underworld, is responsible for not letting the souls return back to earth he is in other words the caretaker of all the souls. In this myth, it is said that Demeter was so furious that Hades had taken her only daughter. It is also said that Hades tricked Persephone to eat six seeds of a pomegranate fruit. That being that she had to spend 6 months out of the ear with him, and the rest with her mom. Since Demeter would mourn the absence of her daughter, this caused snow, and lack of harvest. In myths it is also said that “Hades was also involved in the myth of Heracles” ( Greek Gods, 2017). This myth was that the hero Heracles went to the underworld to capture the three-headed cerberus. It is said that Hades was astounded by the bravery of the hero and boldness of him wanting to take his pet, that he told him yes, with one condition. The condition was that Heracles had “to wrestle and outmatch it” (Greek Gods, 2017). Heracles did as Hades wished, and to the cerberus from the underworld.
