Growing Up With Bullying

As a child growing up i’ve seen and heard a lot about bullying. It’s very upsetting because nobody should have to suffer through being bullied. From what I have seen people do it because they feel so low about themselves that they have to make fun of other people to make them feel bad about themselves. I believe that some people don’t understand how bullying affects other people. Everyone handles bullying differently but it only takes one time to go too far. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year. For every suicide among young people, there are at least 100 suicide attempts. Over 14% of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7% have attempted it. Bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims, according to studies by Yale University. Nearly 30% of students are either bullies or victims of bullying, and 160,000 kids stay home from school everyday because of fear of bullying. Suicide is a very serious thing, because once you’re gone you can’t come back, so if you know anyone who has thought or attempted suicide take action and help them and if you can’t help them get help for them. Over the last three years there has been an 87% increase in the number of children’s counseling sessions about online bullying. 40% of 7 to 11 year old respondents know someone who has been cyberbullied. 7 to 10 young people aged between 13 and 22 have been a victim of cyberbullying. An estimated 5.43 million young people in the UK have experienced cyberbullying, with 1.26 million subjected to extreme cyberbullying on a daily basis.
