Grizzly bears Hey, I didn’t see you there, how are you?I'm just wondering whether or not a big ol' grizzly bear is going to come charging at me at any point in my life, but seeing as grizzly bears are endangered that probably won't happen. In the past, there were thought to be around 50,000 grizzly bears in North America, nowadays they are growing sparse there are estimated to be only around 1800, now not even a 20th of the population in the past. Most of these grizzlies are located in Yellowstone National Park and Alaska, but they can also be found in Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho and Montana. Some are thought to be in Washington. Grizzly bears live in a variety of environments .All of which includes dense forests, subalpine meadows, open plains and arctic tundra . In the past though, they could be found from Alaska to Mexico, and from California to Ohio. Though Nowadays there are efforts trying to make it so grizzly bears can make a comeback and the wild, and all of their efforts are proving to be working, there are 4 times as many grizzlies in the wild as there were in 1975, at …show more content…
They can be malicious or they can be passive, but Grizzly bears are normally solitary animals. Grizzly bears as big and ferocious as they are aren't very territorial and may be seen together eating where food is abundant, like in a stream where they can catch salmon. When a mother grizzly has her babies she tries to keep them away from other male grizzlies because they can be dangerous to the cubs and try to kill them. When they do venture close though the mother bear might fight back to protect her cubs, ( even considering the big size difference the males and females have). Grizzly bears will do pretty much everything to protect her cub against all of the dangers in this world, fighting back against everything that dares step close to her cubs. Well that’s all for this blog post see you next time on blog posters
Now even though these bears help the environment so will other bears. The Grizzlies are just another species of the many species of bears why are these bears more important than other bears. As we find from the GNWT: “Grizzly Bears in the NWT occur primarily in open alpine or tundra habitats, but they can also be found in forested areas. They have large home ranges relative to most other bear species. On average, a male’s range can exte...
Since the beginning of the year we have been reading a book by Ben Mikaelsen named Touching Spirit Bear. Cole starts out as a devious miscreant who never forgave or forgot. Cole soon gets banished to an island for a year. Throughout his experience he learns to start caring and forgiving after being mauled by a bear. To add to that he makes totem faces for everything he encounters such as sparrows, wolves, mice and bears. Each teaching him how he was and what they represented. This project is about how I can be like Cole and make a totem about my life and each animal face symbolizes every part of my life.
These categories are broken down into different genetics of bear species. The most common bear found in Alaska is the black bear. The black bears are smaller than most bears. They are found in almost all states in the US except Hawaii. Most are found in forest, but some may be found in swamps and mountains. An estimated 100,000 black bears live in Alaska.
The characteristics of the grizzly bear as a top predator also make it highly vulnerable to threats. Although it is an omnivore, because it relies heavily on salmon to make it through the winter, it is vulnerable to anything that impacts on salmon runs. It needs wide-ranging habitat and is slow to reproduce. As such, grizzly bears are considered not just a key species but also an ‘umbrella species’ because the protection of their habitats will result in an ‘umbrella of protection’ for a wide range of other species. The protected areas that have been set aside in the Great Bear Rainforest are not enough to sustain healthy populations of grizzly bear so it requires additional habitat set aside from logging. Trophy hunting of grizzly bears also continues to place their population at
Another pro is more people come to Yellowstone National Park to see the wolves since they were extinct for more then 30 years. According to the National Parks Conservation Association, an average of 15,000 people see a wolf in Yellowstone a year. Douglas Smith, who is doing research about the wolves, recording a wolf sighting for 135 straight days from the park roads.
The grizzly bear, a kind of omnivorous animal that consumes moose, fish, “leaves, nuts, and seasonal fruits,” (Grizzly Bear) are “the largest of all bears in the world” (Grizzly Bear), particularly in Canada which has “approximately 25,000” (Grizzly Bears) grizzly bears in British Columbia. Nonetheless, as a result of the hunting rush, the amount of grizzly bears as “majestic symbols of the wild” (Basic Facts About Grizzly Bears) plummeted by up to “15,075” (Grizzly Bears) in British Columbia in 2012. Meanwhile, in other ranges and countries, the number of grizzly bears has decreased significantly so that grizzly bears were “designated, or listed, as threatened with extinction in 1975” (Grizzly Bears & the Endangered Species Act) to be protected in some regions such as Yellowstone area.
One of the most well-known urban legends told is the story of Bigfoot. Much of the research has shown that there are several names assigned to the mammoth ape. According to Napier (1973), Bigfoot would be the creature found mostly in Northwest America, Sasquatch would be a creature named in British Colombia, the 49th parallel in the north-west states of America and Northern California, and the Abominable Snowman, or the Yeti would be the creature named in the Himalayas. Of course, “Wild Man” and “Savage” have also been names used to identify the creature. There’s been thousands of sightings across the world, but there have also been many misidentifications where those who think they have seen Bigfoot have really just seen an ordinary animal or person. Arment (2006) states an individual’s perception may color the eyewitness account. Such misidentifications include: hermits, fugitives, refugees, bears, gorillas, and simply people making up stories or rumors. In addition to sightings, there have been photos, videos, movies, and TV shows that strongly indicates the possibility of the existence of this creature. Though there is much evidence from sightings, myths, and recordings that Bigfoot exists, there is also much proof that it could all be a hoax. Incorrect sightings have led skeptics to argue over the existence of this being stating Bigfoot is really just a fable. So one has to ask oneself, does Bigfoot really exist or is it just another urban legend?
In addition, the landscap and climate that mother nature pushed upon me was not the only danger she brought and that I faced out west. An over whelming amount of dangerous wild life were present any many instances. Grizlly bears were the biggest threat during my stay but wolfs and mountain lions were a close second. During my stay on base in canmore there was a bear attack that took place roughly three kilomètres away. Three people were put in intensive-care with life threatning injuries. There were many other cases of bear sighting thought my training but non to the extent of that attack luckily. After hearing about these run ins with bears, the Officer Staff on the military base initiated changes to the protocols in which cadets travelled.
Coyotes are found throughout most of North America, from Mexico and Central America to Canada and Alaska. Their habitat has also expanded to include a variety of natural and human-altered environments, including forests and fields, scrub lands and wetlands, parks and golf courses, suburban backyards and urban developments. They can adapt the environment very well. Coyote are seen in Terra Nova Nature park,
National Parks are the cornerstone of every country because it preserves the rich cultural and natural resources of a nation, such as Yellowstone in the United States of America. Yellowstone National Park is the World’s First National Park which brings millions of attraction each year, it is larger than Rhode Island and Delaware combine and have over a thousand species of plants and animal (Yellowstone Media). However, a very important type of species has been missing in Yellowstone National Park for a very long time. Wolves, which got reintroduce back into Yellowstone National Park, should stay there because without them the ecosystem would be out of balance.

However, the overall goal of the ESA is to move endangered species off the list once their population reaches the proposed numbers. Delisting grizzly bears is a matter of maintaining the “integrity” (Rinella, 2016) of the Endangered Species Act. Many organizations, including the National Wildlife Federation, are defending the delisting “so long as adequate plans exist to assure recovery continues” (NWF, 2016). The National Wildlife Foundation has been working diligently on the rehabilitation of habitats and the recovery of the grizzly population, but would like to the see them taken off the list. This sounds contradictory but it is because the NWF believes that a success story of this magnitude can only be continued with the delisting as an
My interest in the Giant Panda started when I was six years old, and went to the zoo with my first grade class. I was mesmerized by these beautiful bears with amazing color. The panda bear has black ears, black patches on its eyes, black legs and black arms that stretches across the panda bears back. It might have been their color pattern that I love so much that attracted me to them. I collect small panda bear figures, that I keep on the top shelf in my room. When I was younger I had no idea about the dangers these beautiful creatures would one day be on the endangered species list. As a child I assumed they would always be at the zoo for everyone to see, but I was wrong. The Giant Panda faces many challenges that threaten their existence. One threat is poachers who slaughter the panda bear for their fur. Another reason panda bears are endangered is because of the destruction and degradation of their habitat. The last thing that threatens the existence is the panda bears low reproductive rate. There are several groups working to save the panda bear such as WWF, and the Winton Foundation for the Welfare of Bears. Although the panda bear faces many challenges that threaten their existence, I believe they have a good chance for survival.

The Black Bear is native to North America; it ranges all over North America even in Canada and in Eight Northern states of Mexico. Black Bear only is found in 41 of the 50 US States. Black Bears need thick wooded areas because they are shy and they like to be by themselves. They can live in other places such as mountains, swamp, abandoned fields (State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, 2014). When Black Bears live in close proximity to a city the Black Bear(s) will weigh more because of the availability of high calorie foods. (Florida State University, 2014)
